introducing... a vintage racer

So I was wondering... Can a track racer join this group of dirt junkies?

Some of you already know me from SOCs and some of the various mailing lists, primarily Turbo and vSAAB.

I've been vintage racing SAABs with my Dad since '03 and autocrossed his Sonett from '95 to '00.

Currently running all Dad's SAABs:
'68 Sonett
'64 Quantum Formula S (S stands for SAAB)
'59 Quantum One

We've also got an ex IMSA '72 96 V4 waiting in the wings to be started up again.

I've got a bunch of street SAABs, but that's not what we're here for, is it?

I'm a tech inspector for both the VRG (Vintage Racer Group) and the VSCCA (Vintage Sports Car Club of America).

I'm a driving instructor for the VRG.

I chronicle my craziness on my website and have a slew of videos up here and there. TONS of photos.

That ought to do it for now in terms of introductions I guess...
Oh... yeah...
My name...

Hey Stefan.........It's Ian (John's son).

When I noticed the list of cars and location I had a feeling (while reading it) I HAD to know who this was.

Only if you bolt a roof to that Q1, weld in a cage, beef up the suspension and start running it in Historic class! No, that would be bad.

Our new slogan...
SAABRALLY.COM: We like it dirty

Personally I am a disaster on paved surfaces. I seriously dread the tarmac stages even though we usually end up doing really well.

Alrighty, I'll take that as a Yes. Hi to everyone!

And as I figured, most of you are old acquaintances. I think Jordan is the only one I don't know so far. We'll fix that now.

Geoff,
If I didn't already have a full race schedule ("full" is determined by the number of days off I get factored with the amount of money I make and tempered with the fact that old cars break) I would love to put together a Historic class rallycar... A Sonett would be oh-so-big-a-blast.

As it is... I'm aiming to have SOMETHING old and SAAB to take to the ice races next year!

Yeah, I don't think we ever really met. The last time I heard your name was at the Convention at Hershey where I'm pretty sure you mopped up everybody at the auto-x... Anyway, your reputation precedes you...

you dread paved surfaces? 70+mph average through a stage is dreading? I'd love to see your times if you loved pavement. :D

Somewhere on Phil's website (p3racing.net) he used to have "we like it dirty", I don't see it there anymore. Or maybe its on the shirt he gave me...

Seth and I were talking about that yesterday. A Sonett V4 (I like the body style better) with a built up V4.. yeehaww! Something I've thought about for a while...

No no, you've got it all wrong... Luke goes fast on pavement because he wants to get off of it! The faster he finished, the faster he can get on to the dirt stages. :P
