Welcome! Still need to read the build thread of that Clarion car. I started a few years ago and then got busy and forgot about it. Time to read more, it looks like it came out great!

Browsing through that thread I see you had looked over the museum 99T rally car. There is/was a works 99T rally car here in the US. I looked it over a number of years ago and noticed all of the same things that you did on the museum car. As far as the power steering goes, I noticed that it had a 900 power steering rack fitted to it. The shell was a 99 manual rack shell (stock 99's with power steering got different sheet metal for the power steering rack). I don't know if you got 99s with power steering in the UK but we got them here, they came in cars with automatic transmissions. The steering rack is different than a 900 power rack and the steering columns are different too.

One other thing with the car I saw in the US is that the owner said the heater core was replaced with a oil cooler for the gearbox (maybe also the engine oil cooler was in there too, I forget). The battery up under the windshield always made me laugh!

That is a great idea that I can't believe I never thought of!

Now I will definitely just weld the heater hose ports shut on my 16v engines!

Hi BIRDIEMANGO,

Another "Welcome to this Forum" from me. You have a great collection of cars and needless to say I really like the 99 Clarion. I must admit that I laughed quite a bit when I saw the photo with the trailer attached to the 5dr 900. It reminded me of my time back in Germany when I had my blue '85 900i 5speed with turbo dam, aero wheels and a detachable tow hitch that has towed some trailers people here wouldn't even dare to put behind their trucks . Although 5 doors are mostly seen as the ugliest 900s around I must say that they are quite practical.

I hope to see more of your pics on this forum. Keep the good stuff coming.

Stephan

HELLO GUYS,THANKS FOR THE WELCOME,

GEOFF,WE NEVER HAD POWER STEERING ON THE 99'S IN THE UK,IT IS POSSIBLE TO CUT DOWN A C900 RACK AND MAKE IT FIT,WITH SOME FABRICATION ON THE 99 SHELL.......OR 'SONETT'( HE LIVES 40 KM FROM ME) ON HERE, HAS MADE AN ELECTRIC ONE FROM GM PARTS BIN.......

FORGOT TO MENTION......

I DIDNT HAVE THE TIME ANYMORE TO RUN THE 99 EMS & THE 99T......SO LAST YEAR I SOLD THE 99 EMS TO A GUY ON THE 'ISLE OF MAN' :bawl:

YOU GUYS MAY HAVE HEARD OF THIS PLACE,A SMALL ISLAND BETWEEN THE UK AND IRELAND,WHICH IS FAMED FOR THE 'TT MOTORCYCLE RACING' ON CLOSED ROADS.......

IT ALSO HAS REGULAR RALLIES&HILLCLIMBS FOR FOUR WHEELED STUFF AS WELL....

ONE OF MY AMBITIONS IS TO GO AND SEE THE CAR 'IN ACTION' OVER THERE.....?

MMM,HAVE I MISSED ANYTHING.....?

OH YEP,IN THE CHICKEN SHED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE YARD IS ANOTHER 99T,THIS ONE HAS SAAB WATER INJECTION FITTED,AND WAS PARKED UP IN A GARAGE FOR MAYBE TEN YEARS OR SO,BEFORE WE GOT IT.......IT NEEDED A FULL RESTORATION.
IT IS NOW STRIPPED,RE-PAINTED AND RE-TRIMMED.......THE GEARBOX/ ENGINE +1MM OVERBORE IS IN,BUT ALL ANCILLIARIES NEED RE-FITTING..........

THE UK ONLY GOT 200 BLACK 2 DR MODELS,SO TO HAVE TWO IS PRETTY GOOD...

LIFE GETS IN THE WAY

The only 2dr 99 turbos we got in the US were a few select '77 pre-production test cars. Only '78 3drs were imported for regular sale as far as 99Ts go. :frown 2: Colors we got were: black, anthracite, burgundy, and whatever that goldish silver color is called. I'd love to have one of the '80 green or blue 2dr 99Ts!

Any photos of the factory water injection? Apparently we got a few "99 Turbo Sport" models in '78. All 3dr in that goldish silver color and had factory water injection along with a few other things (swaybars? I forget). I've seen one but I think he had the water injection removed from it.
