Greetings new Saab owner here

Postby Dsp99t » Tue Sep 18, 2012 3:39 pm

Greetings I just purchased a 1978 Saab 99 turbo S. it is an autocross car so restoration isn't my goal but I want it to look nice lol. The car has a long history of autocross and I intend to continue its winning legacy.

I'm here because I bought a lambda computer on eBay and a note was sent along encouraging me to join this forum.

I have not taken delivery of the car yet so photos are not yet available. I can say it is what Saab calls red and is a turbo S (it has water injection). I can also say I have lots of work ahead getting it back up and running. The previous owner had the lambda computer fail so he started to convert it to megasquirt meaning the CIS is all apart. Expect me to have lots of questions regarding this system as I'm familiar with k jet more than cis.

LOL!

Welcome! Sounds like a neat car. Somebody once told me that the "Turbo S" cars were all the silver/gold color but I really don't know. I think I've only ever seen one. Is it the burgundy red? What area are you in & where is the car from?

L Jet? don't think we got that here in the USA. We had Carbs, K Jet, and D jet. Then on to LH 2.2 and 2.4 etc. Perhaps L jet is LH?

L-Jetronic is what the BMW's, Alfas, some Volvos got, with that sliding trap door AMM rather than a heated wire AMM. I believe the control scheme is otherwise nearly identical.

My Alfa GTV-6 had that. Seemed to be the only thing on the damn car that did work. Probably because it was from Ze Germany, ja?

Are you in the US, or Europe? I had never heard of the Turbo S cars until BirdieMango started posting about his cars in the UK, check out some of those threads.

I'm in the US. I personally am not 100% sure it's an S but the one thing the S got was water injection. This one has water injection. This car also has some options that are interesting: radio delete ac delete and manual windows. I'm pretty excited to get this beast going and see what it'll do.

Radio was a dealer add-on too. Mongo is right, power mirrors came out in '82 or '83 in the 900s. I've had a few '83 4 doors where the front windows were electric (switches on the dash) but the rears were manual.

Stock it would have come with power mirrors.
