Re: 1st SAAB rally car in Greece. ..........I hope
I'm back again.
Any source for the wing extensions ?? I ask a quote from RP Glasfiber and they gave me the unbeleivable price of 1700 euros for a set + VAT + shippment. The equivalent set for a Ford Escort MK II costs in the local market 177 euros.
Maybe the set is build from titanium or something. Jesus......
I'll try to post some photos soon..If I've time
As I said I've a complete 900 turbo for parts. If someone need something write a PM. Everything is for free just for you guys (for the help so far) exept the shippment cost.

Are you sure that wasn't 1700SEK? 1700SEK = 172EUR which is around what I remember them costing.

I'll upload some photos from the progress. After the engine transplant I faced some room problems. The 99 radiator doesn't fit with the 900 front engine support, so I had to replaced with the 99's one.
The servo doesn't fir also, so I have to find one from another make, but I saw some photos that they use the 99's. How the hell

Nice work! I'm going to move this thread over to the projects/build section. I've heard the 900 radiator design is a better design (less chance of air in the system obstructing flow). I would try to accommodate it if you could.
Re: 1st SAAB rally car in Greece. ..........I hope
I usually take a 99 and older 900 radiator (with brass end tanks) and have the two merged. I have the drivers side end tank from a 900 put on a 99 core - the height and width is exactly the same, but the location of the outlet is on the bottom on the 900. Then you can use all 900 plumbing- reservior- hoses etc. The local radiator shop charges about $40 to swap the tanks.

Wow. That's an elegant solution. I just used a sawzall, some scrap metal and a welder to make a 900 rad fit a 99. :)

Having trouble fitting the brake servo and the alternator in place? The 99 and early 900 keep the alternator mounted up high so there is room for both the alternator and the brake booster. When fitting a later 900 engine in some people have moved the alternator up higher:
Other people have just given the brake booster a little Swedish massage (bang it with a hammer until everything fits)
Are you using a 5spd transmission?

Re: 1st SAAB rally car in Greece. ..........I hope
Today I check carefully all the photos in the forum and I found the problem. I use the side engine mounts from 900, so the engine stays higher than the 99's
The reason I did that is the power steering. Can go lower from bulck side. Anyway I found an italian servo that fits on the 99 servo base and i move all this 1,5cm back, so the brake pedal moved also 2 cm inside witch is convenient for me since I like to seat back. I need to modify the accelerator petal as well.
Check the clearance on the bottom of the 5 speed gearbox I'm using.
Is more difficult than I thought. On the other hand is a bit of challenge to get it alive

Come on guys. I'm in a good way or I need to replace the side engine mounts in order to low the engine. As I said there is no room down due to the tubing of the power steering.
Re: 1st SAAB rally car in Greece. ..........I hope
You should be ok with the side mount as they are, but the front mount will have to be one from a 99.

It does look a little high. The transmissions usually sit just a little above the lower cross member.

What the diference. I found 2 cars one with the 1985 cc engine and 160bhp and 0ne with 1971 cc engine and 175 bhp.
I suppose need a car between 88 and 93.
Both of them are 88 to 93
Witch one is the best conserning the engine block (waterpump, pistons, crank) since they are both with turbo and 16v head
These are both Saab 900's between 1988 and 1993? I have never heard of any Saab engine having 1971cc's. 1985 sounds correct for any Saab 2.0 litre engine. The only differences available for engines in the USA for that time period were 8v 2.0 litre, 16v 2.0 litre non turbo, 16v 2.1 litre non turbo, and 16v 2.0 litre turbo.
In Sweden there were also sold some 8v turbo until -89. In -89 they wanted to sell all the rest of the 8v they had left so they made a modell called "special". Its an aero with 8v.
when the T16 came out -84 it had 175hk. When the catalytic were introduced late -88 the power went down to 160hk. The aero still had 175hk due to higher boostpressure. -90 the was some new parts. cluth went to a bigger 228mm insted of the old 215mm. The flywheel have different mountingpoints for the clutch. The EFI was changed to Lucas C14 insted of LH. The turbo was shanged to mithubichi insted og garret. Some T16 where sold new with the red APC box with 185hk. I have had all of these late modells.

Re: 1st SAAB rally car in Greece. ..........I hope
Thats the final product. After a long a hot summer I finish it....almost.
So, I use the springs from the donor 900 turbo, with SPAX adjustable socks, a modified front cross member in order to accomodate the 900 turbo radiator and 2 SPAL fans for cooling in front of it.
The vinils are almost ok and now I'm start playing with the wiring harness.
I put the fuse box inside the glove box and I'll try to use the main circuits just to make it run. Later I'll try to modify the APC to get some more from the engine.
For sure I'll ask for help consernig electricals.
I've a question mainly for those have use an 99 in a rally. According the photos you see is the ground clearance enought for gravel tracks or is needed more. Could someone mesure the distance from the side rockets .
Thanks in advance
Chris
