Waiting its turn.... I got the '71 from airsweden for free (I paid for towing) and it is (supposedly) a lot less work to get the body work done.... If I can get another couple clear days it will be prepped for top coat in no time.

It looked pretty solid but it had lots of body work that started to rust under the bondo that needed attention before it disintegrated from the inside out (again).

Even with the repairs you did it looks a lot cleaner than the red car. Why does the primer look so glossy?

Yeah I think it was less work too, plus it gave me some practice.

It's a 2k epoxy primer...it provides really good bare metal adhesion and corrosion resistance. A 2k high-build primer gets sprayed over the top of that which is the matte finish the top coat is going on. I actually have to re-spray those parts as it was so long ago I painted them originally, the high-build is supposed to chemically bond with the epoxy within 2 weeks of putting the epoxy down.

I was telling Luke, I was going to use the epoxy to seal the engine bay and interior and maybe just leave them without top coat....not sure though. The epoxy primer is not UV safe so if it is exposed to sunlight it will chaulk over time. But those parts will be under a hood or under some carpeting....but maybe I'll put down a clear coat...not sure yet.

Looking good, any updates jordan?

Yeah, Leanne just got back with her camera so I haven't taken many pictures yet.

So far I've:
Finished all rust repair
Finished stripping interior, drivers door and trunk
Stitch welded front suspension towers
Reinforced steering column mount
Epoxy'd the exterior/engine bay.
resprayed other side of hood, one door, back seat and trunk
Reassembled/aligned rest drivers door/trunk
hammer/dolly high spots

Body prep to do:
DA sand the panels I sprayed last year
Apply filller
Spray the high-build to exterior
Block
Find a paint shop for top coat.

I think I can complete before end of the month. The heat/humidity has been pretty hard to work paint in the last week.

After that I have to run brake/fuel/clutch lines...remember all that fun stuff?

Engine is pretty much done... just need LSD in the trans.

I took some more photos and started applying some filler.

I should be in Bristol off and on for the next month or so. If I end up down there overnight or have a short day and I'm not carpooling with anyone else then maybe we can have a "LSD party"

Made some more progress yesterday as the weather was awesome.

Body filler was layed down as well as the first coat of high build primer. First round of block sanding was done... only 2 or 3 more rounds to go!

So I'm thinking about getting it top coated and probably cleared. Then I want to apply a satin black S&R swoosh. Fender flares would also be black, I think.

painted swoosh or vinyl? A friend of mine took a picture of my car from the side and said he could make up a swoosh from that. cool.

I was thinking paint. I'd like to have that Saab cut out like in the factory stripe. Or
maybe I'd do S&R logo. Either way I'd need some sort of vinyl mask for that.
