Hello John and Deb,
Sounds like a pretty good time, even with the mechanical. Great shake down event and the fact that you kept it between the ditches and oil in the engine is all good.
I had some of the oil blow by/splashing with my dip stick/filler. End up replacing the rubber seal under the cap with a silicone sheet cut to the original O size.
8 psi :thumbsdown: You need to crank that up and be able to map your ignition. I can run 12 psi and a aggressive ignition and she pulls like a freight train.

Can't wait for the pixs/vids

I figured I'd keep the boost low as it's only been running for a couple of weeks now. I'll likely run it as is for the rest of the Auto-X season and get back to the T5 install over the winter.

almost 2 seconds off your personal best the first time out in a few years and only running 8psi on a modified CIS system...... AWESOME!
The kind of dirty that doesn't wash off :eyebrows:

I did a bit of work on the car over the weekend. I welded some of Luke's (??) gusset plates to my lower control arms in an effort to make the front end more solid. I can feel a bit of flex under hard acceleration now that I have the LSD.
I also put the front sway bar back in but this time I just used the stock rubber mounts instead of the poly bushings I used to run.

It feels great out on the local twisties but the real test will come Sunday at the local Auto-X. That will give me a few days to make any additional mods before Bogus on September 3/4.

Deb bought me a GoPro for my birthday so I'll have that to use for hillclimb video instead of my old camcorder :yay:

Well, Bogus was a bit of a bust this weekend.
I was in the afternoon run group on Saturday and on my first run while shifting to 3rd, my shift rod slipped out of my u-joint. I was able to push the shaft into gear, but it was 5th, so I finished my run in 5th. 2:33. I think that's my slowest run ever! :-O
While getting it all back together, the shaft collar I was using as a clamp broke at the hinge :ranting:
I skipped my next 2 runs and headed back into town for another shaft collar and a stock clamp from the 900 I just parted out.
I got the stock clamp in place early Sunday morning and got my first 2 runs in at 2:10 and change each. Not bad warm-ups.
I put a bit more effort into the third run as I wanted at least the second position, but about 3/4 of the way through the run, the OTHER clamp came apart :bawl:
I finished in 5th again and pulled ANOTHER 2:10. It should have been a 2:05 or under...
I placed 3rd by only about .2 sec.

On a positive note, the car is handling great! I was pretty skeptical putting the front sway bar back in, but understeer was eliminated and I was able to put power on through the corners and exit with a lot more speed

1st place was a 1:53 (+/-) by the 400hp MazdaSpeed3 :rolleyes:

Today I guess I drill out the old seized taper pin and run a bolt through it. I need to replace the shift shaft seal while I'm in there as I think that's why this all slides apart. The RedLine I was using was leaking out out at the seal and seaping into the u-joint, causing it slide apart.

Pioneer Mountain next Saturday and Sunday! Hopefully, I'll have some video worth posting next week!

Got back early this morning from Polaris MT and the Pioneer Hillclimb.
The locals put on a great event and I'll recommend it to anybody who has the time to truck in to the middle of nowhere! The Grasshopper Valley VFD was the main sponsor of the event and they use it for a fundraiser. They also supply all the workers, so we just get to race :yay:

Due to some unforeseen scheduling conflicts, we didn't get out of here until early Saturday morning so I missed my first three runs. This would come back to haunt me later...

The course is 2.55 miles long and any time under 2 is considered really damn fast.
My first 2 runs were both 2:08's with one remaining.

Then the rain started.
You can see in my video several cars bailing out. Pansies.
We were given the opportunity to quit, but I wanted my 3rd run, dammit!!

My final run was 2:05.7, less than one second slower than Bryce in his SAAB-boosted Scirocco. He had all 6 runs. The class winner was a Civic w/ an Integra GS-R motor swapped into it. He got a 2:00.2 and scared himself so bad he couldn't finish all his runs.
I'm sure I would have beat Bryce, given one more run. The thing has sooooo much grip now. It goes exactly where I point it. No push, no slide, I have absolutely no idea where the limit is!
Power appears to be limiting me a bit. Each time across the finish I was doing 104. I think at 8000 ft, I just can't pull enough air through the CIS.

Wow John - that is a fast course - I only counted two gear changes once you were underway :huh:

However I think you may need power steering next ;)

I may have only needed one! The first downshift was for a very large hairpin that I may have been able to power through with just a bit of left foot braking...

I've thought about power steering from time to time but I've got to admit it's been a pretty low priority.

T5 and a cage are next!

Got back early this AM from Maryhill, WA.
This road is AMAZING! I now have anew favorite hillclimb. It is steep and technical. There are some places to use big HP if you have it and since it is near sea level, the big-engined cars really have an advantage. King of the Hill was around 2 minutes flat, my best was a very respectable 2:19:01.
Unfortunately, that was only good enough for second.
The really well prepped Scirocco turbo pulled down a 2:06-ish.

Unfortunately, our class was responsible for the only major incident.
A CRX got loose on the corner just below our worker station. The nose went to the inside and the added traction bars hooked a rock and rolled him...

Great looking run. Looks like you were jacked at the end. I'm going to try to make it Sunday, but the wife may have to work and I'll be entertaining the little one.
