I drove it around town a bit last Sunday and I'm really happy.
It doesn't bump or rub anywhere, and there is less backpop.
I didn't get to really wring it out, but it feels smoother.
I've been out of town for most of the past week, so no chance to put more miles on it.
Now I need to figure out better boost control.
My T7 BCV mod failed so I'm looking at manual boost control options.
Should have something working in a few days.
It doesn't bump or rub anywhere, and there is less backpop.

Well, Yesterday I decided it was time to rebuild my steering rack. The end bushing came out and the rack was banging against the inside of the housing/tube over every bump.
Instead of using one of my NOS kits, I used one of the eEuro kits I bought a while back.
The bushing is too tight to fit over the rack so I put a drum sanding head in my drill press and opened the rack hole a few thousandths.
Seemed to do the trick. Also, the outer diameter is so large that one of the retaining tabs broke while pressing it in place. The two remaining tabs seem to be holding it fine.
The bronze cups work fine and everything is nice and tight. No floppy tie rods.
I went for a drive up/down Bogus Basin Rd, then went and picked up Bryce in his Turbo'd Sirocco and went back up again!
The car is all ready for the race season...
I want a better Turbo now!

Went out to Firebird today and made a few drag runs.
Temps were warm, low 70's, no wind.
My first two runs were both low 15's secs and high 90's mph, but I had botched shifts both runs.
My third run was a good solid run (but not perfect:).
14.809 secs at 102.34 mph.
Two mph faster than last year!

A few updates.
Before Freezeout, I rebuilt/relocated my air filter, eliminating the old housing and filter that were located behind the IC. I new have a K&N cone in front of the IC. I rotated the IC back and added a small fan.
Last night I bent up some of my DOM for a main rollbar hoop. It's not perfect, but I know what NOT to do when I bend up the cage for the 85 Notch I just got title for (more on that car later).
I drove Frank over the local recycler to weigh it before I put the cage in, 2300#. I'd love to lose another 100# or so, but that would require real money that I don't have right now. I'm finally getting close to my 10#/HP target!!

After seeing the gnarly wreck last weekend at bogus, I got motivated to finish my roll bar...
Bryce is coming over tomorrow to finish welding it in place.
I plan to add some door bars later.

If you want to stiffen the chassis run two more bars. From the wheel well joint to the opposite side upper hoop joint creating triangles.

Well, now that the roll bar is done, I tore into my brakes Sunday night to prep for some new Hawk pads to be ready for Maryhill and the ORP trackday.
Everything looked good until I pulled the old Textar pads out Sunday night.
Without the pads, the rotor felt loose. Screws were OK, but the CV nut was a little loose. WTF? Wheel bearing?
Last night I pulled the hub assy out and the wheel bearing is shot. There were no symptoms of failure prior to this.
No noise, wobble, nothing.
The hub did NOT want to come apart and the spindle was badly worn. I think the race is fused to the spindle
I pulled one of my spares from the pile and it pressed it apart easily. I ordered a new bearing from IPS and I'll go pick that up later today.
Looks like I need to replace the lower ball joint while I'm in there.
Glad I found it now and not Saturday at tech!!

During the last session at ORP, I started hearing the alternator pulley rubbing on the brake booster.
It's a snug fit there and apparently the front motor mount loosed just enough that the pulley would rub on hard acceleration.
I decided to make a new front mount for the critter...
It's about 3/8" inch shorter than the original, so that should help with the alternator clearance.

What is the thickness of the aluminum plate? The part is in bending when in load and unload.

Somehow I knew you'd ask this!
It's .25" plate left over from my Astro skid plate. I have no idea what the alloy is, to be honest.
I have a piece of 1/8" rubber to help cushion the load, hockey puck for the unload.

.25" will be fine. Most likely 6061 plate.
Looking at the picture and gauging the hockey puck I was guess it looked like .125".

It's been a crazy cold winter here and I've spent some time in the garage getting a few more projects done.
I picked up a T3/T4 hybrid to replace the old 9000 unit I had been using.
It didn't come with a wastegate actuator so I picked up a Turbosmart actuator.
The bracket I needed was spot welded to the old actuator so I drilled it off...
Done!
