I always took it to imply a side to side shaking motion. Seth, you should sit to pee, your pants might make it through the entire day.

Funny this
Me and a friend where chatting about a land speed car last week !
I have a 95 v4 that I'm putting a B202 t16 in at the mo and we where saying how cool it would be to take it to the salt !

I have seen 135mph in my dads '92 c900 3dr lpt aero and GPS 128mph in my '88 c900 Jubilee which is an 8v with type 8's

When I looked on the web for LSR their is a sonnet II stroker that holds a PROGT class record and the G/PRO record is held at 156.818 mph

Any body able to clear up which categories my car would fall in to ??

Also I have helped develop a 99 T16 with 428bhp running t5 ecu t7 head volvo valve springs and a gt37 turbo
this would be the basic spec for my engine .

Oh and sit to pee in the night when its dark and your half a sleep saves the grief from the wife in the morning

Awesome! Your transmission must love you.

I think your class would be "High Power 4 cylinder under 2L mounted in a box with wheels." Your direct competition will be Volvos.

Sorry that should be 328 bhp and its a gt307 sorry

But still made us perfect our box swappin procedure :yay:

It's got a chillcast 4 speed under it at the mo with a steel diff plate and a oil cooler plumbed in

Lasting for now !!!!

From what I've been told by people who've been there (I have not)...

Weight is not the issue you might think at Bonneville. Because of reduced traction on the salt anything over a few hundred horsepower NEEDS weight to put the power down.

You can not use downforce to add traction, as it comes inextricably packaged with drag.

Now, the east coast stuff is different. They're using a length-limited track (Maxton) and are running on pavement. In that case, sure, go all out in your weight reduction. But a good ECTA car is for shite on the salt.

Also, remember that a large percentage of your drag is at the back.

Finally, classes with the SCTA are based on how stock or non-stock things are (natch). Once you start altering the body, your competition gets significantly more "competitive".

I would think most of the body mods would be in an effort to reduce the flat frontal area of the car ( wedge front ) and the wings and fins and such would not add so much downforce, but steer the air over and around the body. If you have ever driven a C900 that had no rubber spoiler on the hatch (like my tan 86 base model) you would realize how much stability it adds at even highway speeds.

I have the S&R Ducktail on it. I went from no spoiler to the ducktail. The first thing I noticed was how much less the rear wandered at 75-80 mph. Of course it was compounded by the soft base model suspension.

Looks like AMEC did a top speed contest last weekend. They had a clear 9/10 mile section of ice on Lake Algonquin in Wells NY and a radar gun. Seems like it was a free for all, even the Street Legal class cars got to run... no roll cages. Apparently top speed was 114 set by a wrx wagon on Blizzaks? Wonder if they are planning another one this year?

It has been rather warm this winter, I would assume that ice formation has been stunted this year.

114 on ice is quick enough.

If that were on standard studded road tires I would be worried about the studs being thrown from the tires.

They have been having a mostly typical season so far. The usual locations have had enough ice for racing 4 weekends in a row now.

The 114 was set by street car on studless tires. I see that there is more to it than traction. Gearing and aerodynamics are huge once you get going.

Somebody needs to find some crazy gears and get up there next time.

It looks like they are doing it again this weekend, same place. Josh Menke's folks have a place on that lake. Somebody get Kip to talk him in to going and get some cars up there Sat night in time to let em rip on Sunday.

SwedeSport !
Are u ready?
I want to see a OG 900 pass 200 Mph so I can tell all them 4zero loosers.
They allways explain for me how good, fast, highfinished, highendsupercar the Audi R8 is.
And their car does´nt consume any petrol.....
When I ask them what car they have , they allways have a Audi a3 with no extras (hardly stearingwheel, I think that is an option).

So please pass 200 :yay:

This thread was kind of just a pipe dream.

I don't know if it will ever happen, but it sure inspires some interesting ideas of how to make it so.
