Re: 200+ MPH in a C900?
using a 9:35 R&P and #8 primaries (33:24) theoretical top speed using rally tires at 8000 rpm in top gear (1:1) is 203mph. As Ric pointed out, different size tires get you different speeds. So go taller...
The S&R gear ratios would be difficult because the gearing is so long (but if you could get the car going you could get to 92mph in 1st gear at 8000 rpm!)

That's what I'm talking about.

What horsepower figures are required with this gear combo?

Re: 200+ MPH in a C900?
The Ferrari 550 which is a very nice car to drive(my mother could drive it) has a v12 engine, 485 bhp, 419 lbs/ft, curb weight 3726 lbs, 0-60 4,3 sec and top speed 199 mph.
Unfortunately I have never been able to test drive my dream car the Jaguar XJ220.
My favorite car The Jaguar XJ220 has a v6 engine, 542 bhp, 476 lbs/ft, curb weight 3024 lbs, 0-60 3,8 sec and top speed 217,1 mph without catalytic converters.
These cars are quite extreme and still does not do much more than 200 mph . So I would say go for as lot of power you can afford since the SAAB 900 is not the complete perfection in aerodynamics.

Re: 200+ MPH in a C900?
I just read that the ECTA is going to lose their runway at macron NC at the end of 2011. This will eliminate all east coast speed trials. Lets try to get a couple cars together and make a roadtrip. I would love an opportunity to see what my car can run. My stock bodied 8v could provide a baseline for a 200 MPH effort. This could be our last chance to legally find out.

I'm gonna guess 113mph for your car and 88mph for DeLorean.

Re: 200+ MPH in a C900?
I was gonna guess between 125 and 130 for my car. If I understand the course correctly there is about a half mile run up, a timed mile, then a half mile to stop.
I would take off the roof scoop, and possibly put a set of aluminum moon discs on a somewhat narrow wheel and tire combo. Ill probably put some really low cut springs in it too. I may put blanking plates in place of the side view mirrors, and do an airdam that nearly touches the ground. Maybe some sign vinyl to cover some openings and body gaps.

125-30 is pretty fast for an N/A 8 valve. What have you done to the engine and stuff to make it go like that?

Its a 2.1 with a mildly worked head, an MSS header, 2.25 inch exhaust. Dyno shows 110 whp. I have seen 125 on the street with it. With a dead flat mile and a half to stay on the go pedal, I don't think its unreasonable.

Re: 200+ MPH in a C900?
I couldn't get the stock 8v to go any faster than 105 downhill in a hurricane. It ran out of pull around 4500 rpm. This new combo seems to continue to pull up to about 6k. Albeit not like a Turbo would, but way more than it ever did with the factory equipment.
I managed 145 in my 2000 9-5 Aero. But had to slow down to enter a populated area. It had more but I ran out of road.

Re: 200+ MPH in a C900?
This guy's got 38 mph to go:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2s36Spv ... detailpage (162 mph, '88 SPG).
The ECTA website says he went 158 but maybe the youtube run was unofficial. Call me an old coward, but you won't see me doing that without a full cage.
Anyone know this guy? Kyle Dobbins, Dobbins Racing. Google turns up roundy-round racing stuff out of Ohio.

Re: 200+ MPH in a C900?
I seem to recall seeing a pic of a gray spg in the ECTA page photo gallery.
Is it me or did the car get a little waggle to it when he got off throttle towards the end?

I noticed that at the end, too.
I thought a "waggle" is what you do right before you shank the hell out of the golf ball (well, if you're me).
