Once the metal repair was pretty much complete, I sprayed the whole quarter panel with epoxy primer. I'll put the ever so slight amount of filler ON TOP of the primer, rather than underneath. This is what is recommended by the paint companies these days as the repair is better sealed up this way.

Once the primer was dry, I put a skim coat of filler, sanded, and then followed up with a coat of high-build primer in that area just to fill the pores.

I also decided to strip the entire hood to bare metal. There were enough little rock chips and dings along the front edge with spider veins of rust underneath that this was the simplest way to get a good result.

Its actually a very light blue, it was Josh's daily driver, turned parts car. Was actually fairy clean but the 85 wiring went south and Josh didnt feel like fixing. Swedesport grabbed the hood and some other bits and now its gone to Valhalla.

So, will this chase car be driven to rallies, or are you investing in a 2-car trailer? :P

It would have to be enclosed. We could just line up a row of cots inside it, and not have to fill motels with air mattresses.

In order to stay true to the spirit of late 70's factory effort it should be towing the racecar lol. For fun, at least get a pic of it all hooked up with the B16 car on an open trailer. Hey, with a turbo B and a light single-axel trailer you could probably do it fo'realz.

There should be no reason why not  Once you get used to the fact you are towing something that weighs more than the thing you are towing with, and realize it is going to feel weird... and just do it, it will make it! :P provided it does not overheat up hills.

High build sanding primer is sprayed on the quarter panel and then sanded totally smooth with 320 grit on the DA. The basecoat is ready to go right on top of this. The panel looks totally smooth, the repair is completely hidden :yay:

Nothing left to do but let the paint fly:

The paint is base/clear and I shot the car in stages since I don't have great lighting or a dust free enviroment.
I did the roof/hatch/hood in one session. I Let that dry, then came back and taped that off and shot one side... let that dry, then the other side. Its a lot of gun cleaning and taping/masking, but working on the smaller sections allowed me to control the enviroment and lighting much better.

Can never have too much light when painting:
