1972 SAAB 99 EMS Constant velocity ( universal joints )

Postby Rosco76726 » Sun Nov 21, 2010 4:10 am

1972 99 EMS has very worn CV joints and i cant source replacements in Australia.

The car is used in tarmac rallies and the existing joints are beyonmd repair.

Both inner axle and outer axle have 23 splines.

Any help or suggestions will be very appreciated.

i have even considered a later front end but so one can guarantee it will fit.

Rosco,
Early CV's can be tough to find. On my early cars, I've just updated to the 86-87 900 hub assemblies w/ the vented rotor.
Since the ball joints are the same 69-94, any of the 99/900 front hubs will bolt in. You'll have to get/build new brake lines and figure out which halfshafts to use as there are different lengths depending on which transmission you have. There is also a difference in the tie rod ends between >74 and 75> that may require a later steering rack.
This is a drop-in upgrade on the 75> cars, but still worth doing on the early ones...
