I just have to say I am sooooo impressed with what you have done.
I've just spent a good 2 hours reading and re reading this thread and can not imagine the dedication it takes to tackle something of this magnitude
My hat is off to you sir !
I just had to sign up to congratulate you on this and if you need anything shipping from the uk I would be more than happy to help out with this project if I can.

Anyone interested in following in Luke's footsteps? I'm selling my 16v head
Moving to Italy for at least 2 years and storing my 1978 99 EMS and all my 99 stuff including the 16v head is just too expensive for me. Taking it with me to Italy is near impossible and also too expensive.
So send me a PM if you want to built your own 16v B-type dream engine

Thanks for the pics Birdie, I had not seen the 16V at trollspeed before, it is on display or going to be restored and used?
I'm 90% of the way home on mine, I'm hoping this winter to be able to finish off the valve details and do final assembly.

FRIENDS FROM THE UK, HAD ALREADY DRIVEN OVER TO TROLLHATTAN 2010 IN THEIR 1978 3DR 99T,FOR THE 'SAAB FESTIVAL' & MIDNATTSOLRALLYT......
I GOT A PHONE CALL,TO MEET THEM OUTSIDE THE SAAB MUSUEM.....WHERE THEY PICKED US UP,TAKING US ACROSS TOWN TO 'TROLLSPEED'.......
I SPENT A GOOD WHILE TALKING TO 'TOMMI' AT TROLLSPEED .........WHOM BASICALLY IT WOULD APPEAR TOOK OVER THE 'COMPETITIONS' SIDE OF THINGS AFTER THE 'SAAB FACTORY' PULLED OUT OF RALLYING....
NOTHING WAS MENTIONED ABOUT REVIVING THE 'B' MOTOR 16V IN THE ABOVE PHOTO,IT JUST SEEMED THEY HAD PULLED IT OUT FROM UNDER THE BENCH,TO PUT IT ON DISPLAY FOR THE WEEKEND
AFTER SHOWING HIM PICTURES OF MY CLARION BLOMQVIST CAR 'TOMMI' SEEMED FAR MORE INTERESTED IN TALKING TO ME ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE 99 TURBO RALLY CARS........SHOWING ME ORIGINAL EXHAUST MANIFOLD MADE FROM 'INCONEL' TO WITHSTAND THE CONTINUAL THERMAL EXPANSION&CONTRACTION..........BUT IT WASN'T FOR SALE

LATER ON IN THE AFTERNOON,I TOOK THIS PHOTO OF THE MANIFOLD HEADER ON THE 16V EMS IN THE MUSUEM,NOTE HEAT SHIELDING FOR STARTER MOTOR.
I ORIGINALLY HAD PROBLEMS ON MY STARTER MOTOR ON THE 99T,BEFORE WRAPPING IT IN HEAT RESISTANT FOIL,AND FABRICATING SHIELDS TO KEEP THE STAGNANT HEAT FROM DESTROYING IT.
I ALSO ADDED A FAN MOUNTED UNDER THE CAR,DRAWING COOL AIR FROM THE FRONT AIRDAM,WHICH IS DIRECTED AT THE TURBO/STARTER MOTOR FROM UNDERNEATH,JUST TO KEEP AIR CIRCULATION TO A MAXIMUM,AFTER I HAVE COME IN OFF TRACK.........
THE TWO CARS IN THE MUSUEM, I SPENT PRETTY MUCH ALL AFTERNOON IN THERE.......OR RATHER IN THE ENGINE BAYS,AND UNDERNEATH.........IT IS PRETTY ASTOUNDING TO SEE THAT NEARLY ALL THE MODIFICATIONS ON THE WORKS CARS,WERE FABRICATED ITEMS THAT CAME FROM THE ORIGINAL 'SAAB PARTS BIN'.
