Thanks for the tip- I'll give it another try to chip my way down to some threads. That crud is hard as rock! As this car is a 1980, does the gear drive indicate the transmission was replaced at some point? My reading indicated it was all chain drive after 76 or so...

Right, it was all chain drive from 78-on, so it's an early trans.

The stuff you are trying to chip out is probably the threaded plastic section of the oil thrower. You should be able to turn it out.

Hey SalemSaab, I'm in Portland, not to far away. I think you were at the recent saab meet, I think I remember seeing your 99. Looks nice!

And yep- that was indeed the remains of the oil thrower. It turned out easily thanks to the tips. I just wasn't seeing it for what it was. :)

Just about ready to pull the engine now. Anyone need some spare 99 motor parts? I won't be needing the engine at all. I'm happy to break it all the way down to internal stuff as needed.

Yup, had it up there a couple Saturdays ago .. my first trip out of the county with it :P
What were you driving that day?

And I could be very interested in (quite) a few things off that motor (from the 1980, right?) .. I need to start a Pile :P
Dealing with a starting issue currently .. had to use starting-fluid to fire it up this morning, 'luckily' ( :dunno: ) I was able to drive it to work and not take the bus..

Seeing it like that kinda makes me sad :-( nice chrome too.
at least its going to good use

I should have looked at this earlier & got that rockin' gas cap from you too.
Just noticed, my 99 doesn't have that red rear corner light .. seems to be holes for it on the opposite side only :dunno:
I'm sure it has been through a lot in its years tho not nearly as much as yours :P
