Nope, couldn't make out anything but wind noise. Is this like an exhaust rattle, or more like piston slap or valve train clatter? Most of the metallic rattles in my SAABs are from one of the heat shields on the exhaust, like the one over the cat. Is the noise there when the engine is under load and when you rev it without load?

I can hear a little bit of a high pitched noise. It sounds like it's external to the engine, otherwise it would probably be muffled or more of a whirring noise. It sounds sort of like a dry clutch throw out bearing to me. Does it go away when you depress the clutch? If it does you can take the clutch cover off and carefully squirt the bearing with a little PB blaster and it should quiet down, at least for a while.
It could also be an alternator bearing.

Yes, it sounds external to the engine and I can still hear it at highway speeds if I take it out of
gear and rev the engine. It's a really worrying sound, but since it sounds external, it might be
nearly as bad. It used to be minor and predictable at about 55 mph it would show up gradually getting louder then it would get quite. Speeding up or slowing down would make it go away.
I'll try to get a better recording of it on Friday. Monday its getting towed up to the media blasters .. looking forward to that and getting pictures of the naked lady. ;-)

Who is doing the blasting? Are they priming it, too?

Dude -- not stalking you, but...

I saw your white 84ish 900 outside the bike shop ;-) Good catch!

Well shit, you got the last picture of the windshield in one piece. It cracked just when it looked like we had got it a loose.
[later] .. I have a used windscreen on order .. apparently free of chips and pits. Let's hope it arrives safely.
Getting towed up to Marysville on Monday.
(you can see my NG900 off in the distance .. its destined for the scrap heap, don't ya know.

I was able to get a pair of front indicator / turn signal housings over the weekend. Unfortunately it looks like the reflective paint has weathered away. However, the good news is that the plastic has not. It is solid, and in very good shape. Does anyone have a recommendation on a type of "silver mirror" paint I could use that would hold up in this application? There seems to be lots of 'mirror paints' out there that stress how cool they are. I don't want these things to look cool, just keep other cars from running into me.
I also got a pair of tail lights several weeks ago that were in really good shape. These still have plenty of reflective surface, though one has less than the other.
However, it beats the hell out of what I had before. These would barely light up and the thin separators crumble to the touch so that the lights bleed into each other's segments .. Yes .. that's even AFTER cleaning!
And the reason? .. moss invasion

Thats en skam, skulle du få helt galen fitta om du byggt ett 5 bildörr rally
I am the 73%

Det kommer att bli en familj bil och en daglig förare .. är inte det lite bättre än en 5-dörrars racer?

Jag måste gå på toaletten
I used aluminum tape on the rear reflectors of my '80 99 (except for the license plate light ) it worked very good. You can polish it with aluminum polish.
