I'll get some paint thinner after the red spray paint. The kid who owned the car before had spray painted the old 'solar red' carpets red (in the car). I think he also used the duct tape to rebuild the seats, but we forgive him. The carpet is based off 1969 99 patterns.

That looks AWESOME.

Love the color of the carpet.

looks great, I'm jealous.
I might have to find a local upholsterer sometime soon and see what it might cost.

Hmmmm .. the original tire cover was vinyl. I can do it in black, but my buddy is keen to do it in the same durable fabric we put on the boards and sides. I think I still want to do a black vinyl cover.

^^Vent line?

Carpets are looking great, the old ones were definitely past their time.

what is the shiny material? The vent line I get, just curious what the sort of adhesive insulation/sound deadening was used. It looks like a nice clean way to improve on the original headliner. I assume some sort of fabric will cover this.

This was $16 a roll at home depot which states on the package: "for hobby and professional use" ! Its in the roofing section and is replacing all that old musty tar paper I scraped off the roof with a heat gun. Its inexpensive, but feels like dynamat. Having it in a roll rather than sheets seems to work better too. I also used some of it under the carpet on the kick panels. The floor still had the original sound deading, so I did not treat that. Any other areas I should treat? The doors and rear area still had their original material. The original headliner 'shell' will be recovered this week in a light gray.

Finished up the rear hatch area. I got a hatch sill out of a 900 at the Fix-it-day. Door cards are in though I need to do some fitting of the contour on the rear doors. Ran new wiring and grounds for the hatch so rear window defroster would work. Did the 900 hatches have a braided ground at the top of the hatch to the body?

I always wanted to do a 5 door car. I wanted to modernize it a little with T16 driveline, spray some fresh paint, lower it and tint out the windows. I just figured the 5dr would make a nice cruiser. Plenty of room in the back for a bunch of amps and subwoofers.

I can really appreciate your efforts to keep it reasonably stock looking. It looks great. Can't wait to see it completely finished.

Thanks man, that was exactly my plan - to make a comfortable cruiser!
