Testing a tach

Postby Hans » Tue Aug 02, 2011 11:15 am

Seeing all the recent pics of 8k tachs here has got me wondering about my own 8k tach. How do I test on the bench?

Also, I read somewhere that they don't work with LH2.4 -- anyone know about this?

It wouldn't be easy to test on a bench since you need a pulsed signal but it's easy enough to wire to a car... power, ground and the 1(-) terminal off of the coil. You might get a better signal from the ignition amplifier, but it should work just fine.

Sounds like internet rumor...I mean the whole gauge cluster won't interchange directly (2.4 has speed sensor/ different connector on speedo), but I'm sure the tachs can be swapped ( I did it, but never put it in a car) using the factory ribbon setup.
