Here's one for the experts, ever seen a 4th gear assembly look like this?
This is the only bit of debris found in the box

Re: Trans repair
Looks like the roll pin that holds in the selector shaft. Sticks out normally in the side cover.
Re: Trans repair
It's much smaller diameter than the roll pin - would possibly fit in the centre of it :)

Maybe the one above that (also seen in that photo) ? It's a double roll pin I think.
Re: Trans repair
Oh, the one for the actual gearchange rod? It looks exactly like the one in your pic.

Re: Trans repair
Just to finish up the thread. I ended up drilling out the 87 primary case to accept the later selector shaft. I also had to use the intermediate gears from the 87 as the later 91+ gears move the centerline of where the counter-shaft is supposed to come through. The intermediary ratios are pretty much the same, however the earlier intermediary gearset is not quite as wide.
Ideally you would want to run a 89-90 main gearset and a 91+ transfer gearset/case to get the closest 1-4 ratios and still have the strongest components.
The transmission is shifting smoothly again and I drove it to SOC and back without issue.
