Re: Yet another yellow '73
I always thought a "bumperette" look would be cool on an early 99.

Re: Yet another yellow '73
I've wondered if one could find relatively inexpensive chrome bumpers that could be adapted to a 99. I thought about some British sports cars but they're actually skinnier than 99s. There are aftermarket bumpers available for MGBs for relatively little $ but 99s are 6" wider. There might be some way of making it, or something similar, work. Maybe there's something in JCWhitney

having looked at the chrome bumpers a lot recently I can say that there is not much to them and its likely some could be made to work.

Re: Yet another yellow '73
Are they actually chome, or stainless steel? The ones on my 71 are non magnetic, and do not have a speck of rust anywhere.
To do bumperettes, you would need 2 bumpers, cut the 1 footish segments, then cut the ends off another, weld, grind, polish.

They are stainless, I'd say go for SAAB original, they can still found around fairly easily and they will be the right thing.... an MGB bumper or something is going to be a cheap cheap stamped in china crap with questionable plating that will pit in a couple years and can't be cut and welded and modified to fit without be re-chromed anyway. The 99's deserve better.

Stainless steel is very workable,
I have seen restoration shops hammer damage out of trim, weld pieces together, grind and polish, and you cannot tell it was touched when done.
I agree, it would be pretty easy to put stainless bumpers off an early 99 onto a later 99. the front ends are not so different that it should match the contours.

Would the TR6 wheels you have mounted fit an early 900? Is the bolt pattern and hub bore the same?
