With a little hunting I was able to find these inserts for the SPG kit rails.

The hole is 7mm square. I test fitted one and I'm pretty sure they will work.

Still doing some bay prep. Used the Corroless primer in the pan , and the etching primer on the bare spots. Came back and laid some filler primer in a few spots to smooth things out a bit. I also cleaned up and sprayed the heat shield using Eastwood detail gray. I'll tape it up, shoot the bay and peel the tape. I didn't want gray overspray on the blue. I'll spend the week scuffing the shine off every nook and cranny. I hope to spray 3 coats of color in the bay next weekend if its not too cold.

That's the cleanest looking C900 firewall heat shield I've seen in a long time. Make sure the engine you put in doesn't have any leaks!

That looks really nice with the contrasting colors like that, I like it.

I plan to drive this car. It certainly won't be a museum piece. I'm sure it will look great when it first goes together, fully expecting a bit of patina to happen in short order. Either way it will be an improvement over the black primered shell that has been sitting around for years.
I'll be able to point out 1000 things that I should have fussed over more. I have certainly cut some corners on the project.

Lost some steam in the last week as I have not been feeling too well. Run down and tired like I'm getting the flu. I still hope to lay color on Saturday afternoon. Well at least in the engine bay. If I can accomplish this I can put down the cup gun for a few weeks while I re-install the front suspension and steering. It's currently propped up on a furniture dolly with some jackstands on top. I can roll it around the shop, but its sort of rickety.

Tackled spraying color in the engine bay this weekend. In spite of the cold weather I went for it. Heated up the shop until it was about 60 inside. The Ambient temp should be above 50 with low humidity. The substrate temp needs to be at least 5 over the dew point. Using Dupont Centari single stage, I applied 3 coats. I tried the best I could to get the gun down into the fenders and into all the nooks in the chassis. I started with a mini "touch up" gun, and spent a good amount of time just trying to get color on everything. Even with the tiny gun it was impossible to get it all. I switched to a standard gun for the next 2 coats. I probably could have put it on wetter as I did not have a single run or sag. I did get some dry spots and a bit of orange peel but everything that will show when the the car goes back together looks good, so I won't fuss with it too much.

Overall I am happy with the results. And I didn't stink up the building as bad as I expected.

Probably because your nose became insensitive to the stink after a while

The silver/gray contrasts nicely with the blue. It might look good with a SPG kit in silver(?)

The primer was much stinkier than the topcoat . the spg kit will be blue as well.

I vote for contrasting color...I don't think they ever look as good color matched....but maybe you will prove me wrong.

I think I saw silver fx on a white 900 once and IMHO it looked odd. Either original charcoal gray or body color are the only way to go.

that's what I meant. Only body color one I liked was the original pearl SPG.
