I bet if you pull the head off you can probably just replace the gasket or might need to get the head decked to get it straight again.

Re: My rallyX practice car
Check the one you have first. It may have just warped, may be able to have it serviced and plopped back with a new gasket.
I have a few heads that I was going to trash. All of them in good shape. I just have more than I need. I would swap you a working one for your broken one, but there would be shipping 2 ways... You would be better off getting one at a pick-n-pull. They are like 35 bucks at the yards here.

I'm going to pull it off tomorrow and get it checked out at a machine shop to see if cracked and if not, if it can be straightened. If it turns out to be bad I would definitely be willing to trade the bad head for one of your good ones if you're going to scrap it anyway. There aren't many 900s in scrapyards around here.

Re: My rallyX practice car
I have 4 of them, 3 are from a turbo, one is not. just have to swap cams. I'm sure that one or two are good.
The shipping costs might be prohibitive, unless you wanted to make a road trip...
I just need to clean house a bit, so I'm not sad to see them go. Planning a scrap yard trip soon. Besides the 4 I mentioned I have 2-2.1 heads, an 85 Hemi head, and @least 4 8v heads. I plan to keep 1- 2.0, 1- 2.1, the 85 Hemi, and the 8v heads. The rest need to go.

Re: My rallyX practice car
Are you coming up this way any time soon? There's a head on Kelly's old '88 900T (car getting scrapped before winter) but I won't be able to get to it any time soon.
Jason, if you use that '85 head you should get a "Yeah, it's got a Hemi" sticker for your car.

Re: My rallyX practice car
I had it prepped for on my first car, but found a crack in the block. Finally found the right internals to build a proper bottom end. The head sat on the shelf for years.
It might end up in a boat.

Re: My rallyX practice car
I didn't get the head off yesterday, it was 100 degrees out and I was too lazy. Maybe I'll try to attack it tonight.
Because of the failure symptoms I'm hoping it's just the head gasket. In any case I'm going to get the head checked out. If I do need a head I think I can get one locally, there's a N/A 16-valve car at one of the yards around here.

Re: My rallyX practice car
Keep me posted. probably not gonna do a scrap run for a few weeks or more.
It would be a long drive up to PA to pick up a head. hopefully you can score one locally.

How did you make out with that cylinder head?

Haven't gotten it off yet, gotten sidetracked by some other projects, hope to get it off this weekend. I did take the plugs out and peeked inside the cylinders, doesn't look like they are full of coolant so that's good.

I'm thinking about parting or selling this car. Too many projects.

Thats a bummer, I'd hate to see another sedan bite the dust.

Yeah, I just have too many cars and I doubt someone is going to want to buy a beat-up sedan with a popped head gasket. I emailed you pics of the spoiler.

Re: My rallyX practice car
I'd say just take the time and replace the head gasket. Its not that hard of a job to do in the driveway. Will be much easier to sell if someone does not have to tow away

I don't really feel like it, I'll be able to make a bit a money if I pull the valuable parts off the car (brand new Bilsteins, skid plate, spoiler, etc.) and sell those separately and scrap the rest. I also want to keep the front seats for my V4.
Even if it's running and driving it has limited value because it's beat up from the accident last fall.
