American Racing is a very common brand (had some of their wheels on the '88 civic I learned to drive on :P ), but I certainly have not seen a set like those .. they look great!

Won't find Cosworth parts over here either :silent:

POWDER COATED SLAM PANEL,LIGHTS,FAN AND RADIATOR IN........

NOW ALL WE NEED IS AN EXHAUST(JETEX),SOME COOLANT,OIL AND A BATTERY.......

AND SOME GAS.......

WHO WANT'S TO BET THE FUEL PUMP HAS SEIZED UP :bawl: :rolleyes:


HOPEFULLY IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS,IT SHOULD BREATHE AGAIN,AFTER BEING 'OFF THE ROAD' FOR ABOUT TEN YEARS......AND UNDERGOING A FULL RESTORATION.

HI GEOFF,NOPE THIS MY BROTHERS HARD WORK,IT'S HIS WATER INJ.99 TURBO .HE IS A SHEET METAL WORKER,TIG/MIG,CONVERTS NORMAL VEHICLES INTO SPECIALIST VEHICLES FOR THE DISABLED, TAILORED TO EVERY NEED..........

BETWEEN US,THERE AIN'T MUCH WE CAN'T DO...... :thumbsup:

THIS IS THE 1380 FULL RACE ENGINED MINI HE BUILT, PICTURED ON THE ISLE OF ANGLESEY IN WALES,ON A TRACKDAY WHEN WE WERE TESTING.........

STEEL CRANK,REVVED TO 9000 RPM,STRAIGHT CUT BOX..........OH BOY WAS IT FUN!!

WE USED IT FOR RALLYING,AND SPRINTS/HILLCLIMBS.........

AGAINST MY CLARION 99 TURBO,WE DID SEVERAL SPRINTS WITH THE MINI...THE MINI WAS ALWAYS FASTER BY AROUND 0.4 SECS OVER A MILE,THAN THE 99 TURBO.....


THE GUYS IN THE LISTER JAGUAR XJS WERE QUITE SUPRISED TO SEE US GOING PAST THEM DOWN THE STRAIGHT :yay:


THE IDEA IS TO RACE THE TWO 99 TURBO'S AT AINTREE RACE CIRCUIT,WHICH IS 8 MILES DOWN THE ROAD FROM US..........

WE HAVE DISPENSED WITH THE STANDARD T-BOX EXHAUST ARRANGEMENT,UTILISING A MODIFIED '900T' ANGLED CENTRE BOX,WITH BESPOKE TAILPIPE......

A SAAB 9000I(NEW OLD STOCK) DOWNPIPE RELINQUISHED IT'S FLEXI-JOINT,WHICH WAS SUBSEQUENTLY WELDED INTO THE THE 99T DOWPIPE TO ALLOW FOR FLEX.THE ORIGINAL CENTRE BOX HAS HAD RUBBER BOBBINS FITTED,TO SECURELY LOCATE IT TO THE FLOOR,SOMEWHAT SIMILAR TO THE JETEX CENTRE SILENCER ON A 96V4......

I HAVE USED A VERY SIMILAR SET-UP SUCCESFULLY ON THE 'CLARION 99T' WITH EXCELLENT RESULTS...........

IT'S GETTING CLOSE NOW,TO TURNING THE KEY....... :huh:

Neat! The 99 Turbos we got in the US all had catalysts and no center boxes. No flex sections either of course.

Sounds like you've got quite a few projects lined up, eh?

AFTER TURNING THE KEY LAST WEEKEND,IT STARTED ......SECOND TIME

OF COURSE WE PRIMED THE FUEL SYSTEM ,AND REMOVED THE INJECTORS,BRIDGING THE FUEL PUMP RELAY,TO CHECK THEY WERE DELIVERING ATOMIZED FUEL CORRECTLY FIRST......

THEN WE COULD GET THE BONNET ON,WHICH HAS BEEN OFF THE CAR FOR NEARLY FIVE YEARS NOW.......AND FIT THE SPOILER.

MEANWHILE WHILST MY BROTHER IS WORKING HARD ON THIS 99 TURBO,I AM DOING SOME WORK ON SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT......SO HOW MANY OF THESE, CAME TO THE STATES?

That 2dr is looking pretty nice!

The only CDs we got here are 9000s. I did see a C900 CD while in Sweden. I've never liked how short the front doors are on 4dr/5dr 99/900s so the CD just seems like a much more practical solution. I always had assumed that the front doors on a CD were from a 2dr/3dr but saw in one of your posts that they are not. Also saw the side-by-side on page 7 http://www.saabclub.fi/www/images/stories/saabtietoa/finlandia.pdf

That car is an '84 and had vented front disks? I've never seen them on a car prior to '86.

You might want to check the fit of those Borbet wheels on the front of your car. A friend of mine bought some very similar American Racing rims once, also 7" wide as I remember. We test fit one to the rear and it had similar clearance to the spring tower. On the front it seemed to fit until we turned the wheel to full lock and found that the wheel was sitting under the spring perch. The spring perch would have dug into the tire!

YEP,IT IS CERTAINLY THE LONGEST SAAB I HAVE HAD IN THE WORKSHOP.....

THE GUY WHOM OWNS THIS, HAS TWO COMPLETE OTHER 900CD,AND ONE IN BITS.....

HE FITTED THE VENTED DISCS/CALIPERS FROM A T16 1985,THAT HE HAD BROKEN FOR SPARES,AS IT HAD RUSTED OUT.....HE HAS ALSO REPLACED THE AUTO TRANSMISSION IN THE SILVER 900CD WITH 5 SPEED MANUAL.

THESE CALIPERS ARE PRETTY HARD TO GET HOLD OF NOW.....

I BELIEVE THE CARS WERE REALLY ONLY AVAILABLE IN SCANDINAVIA/HOLLAND FOR MOST OF THE PRODUCTION RUN,WE GOT THEM HERE IN THE UK FOR A FEW YEARS ONLY...

THE LAST OF THE PRODUCTION RUN WERE FITTED WITH TURBO 16V ENGINE,BUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE.....

THE BORBETS WILL BE FINE GEOFF,I HAVE THE SAME OFFSET WITH THE 16 INCH ONES FITTED TO THE CLARION 99 TURBO....

WE DID HOWEVER HAVE ISSUE WITH THESE 'CARMONA' MINILITE WHEELS ,WHICH ARE 6J ON THE WATER INJECTED 99T.WE HAD TO TAKE ABOUT 3MM OFF THE FRONT CALIPERS,FOR THEM TO CLEAR THE WHEELS,THE REAR CALIPERS WERE OK ON CLEARANCE

MY BROTHER GOT THE 99 TURBO OUT OF THE WORKSHOP FOR THE FIRST TIME TONIGHT......

HE HAS SPENT ALL WEEKEND ON THE PAINT WITH A BUFFER,FOR THE FINAL FINISH......

AND COMPLETED THE ONE-OFF EXHAUST TAILPIPE....

I WAS BUSY PAINTING THE 900CD LIMOUSINE DOWN THE OTHER END OF THE YARD IN ANOTHER CHICKEN SHED.....
