74 99 EMS

Postby EvanB » Wed Jun 20, 2012 5:59 pm

I just received the 74 EMS I bought from the classifieds here. I'm not entirely sure what I am going to do with it yet but so far I am planning on getting it running and see where I can go from there.

Some pictures:

Yep! I just ordered a new slave cylinder for it. Hopefully I can get it running and throw a seat in it to get it on the road.

Once I can drive it I will have more motivation to clean it up and get it repainted and find an interior.

Awesome, really glad that it found a home! Theres a lot of experience here with these cars, so don't be afraid to ask questions....

The rust looks really mimimal, you could likely patch those areas up pretty easily with grafted steel bit from a 900, as the sheet metal in those areas is basically identical.

Looks like it came with an SPG panel kit, I'd sell it and put the money toward paint... they never look right on a 99... more an 80's style thing IMHO...

I have a complete interior from a '74 ems but its not in great shape... could be usable though... I saved it because the brown EMS interiors are the best of all time!

I'm planning on selling the 900 airflow kit. I have the wheel arch pieces as well but didn't get a picture of those.

I've been working on it a bit...put the lights and front bumper on, sorted through the dash pieces, etc.

That brown interior is awesome! I would like to put a full interior back in this car but I need to get it drivable first.

Threw on the front bumper and lights/mirrors. This weekend I am going to work on getting the wiring harness back in the car.

Does anyone have photos of the throttle pedal in a 99? I'm trying to figure out how it hooks up.

I also need to figure out which wires go where on the ignition switch.

It's a little fuzzy when zoomed in but I should be able to figure it out. Thanks!

Slowly working on piecing things back together.

Also trying to figure out the spliced in wiring and "mystery" switches. I have at least one switch to control the fan, maybe two?

I also got the throttle pedal figured out, thanks for the diagram!

Looks like a lot of custom work there. If it were me, I'd redo all the wiring. Interesting electric water pump mod. Seems at a rather high point in the system. Be sure to keep it topped off on the motor will cavitate or worst burn up due to the lack of water and cooling.

Mine is a 74 with the Bosch D-Jet injection, things probably changed around when they went to K-Jet.

EDIT: It is indeed K-Jet, not D-Jet, I'm not sure what I was thinking. It should be D-jet since it is a 74 though? I thought they switched in 75.

It is non-lambda though.

I had K-Jet on my Mercedes W116, never did get it running right.

The rest of the blades look like that too!

I am considering redoing the wiring. I really just want to get it running first before I go tearing into things so I have a starting point to work from.

I always have more motivation for a project when I have driven it at least once, the ones that need a lot of work before I can ever hear it run usually don't stick around long.
