96 vs 99 vs 900 A tech spec thread for reference

Postby Crazyswede » Mon Oct 08, 2012 12:36 pm

Having wondered what many of the little differences were between 99's and 900 and more recently V4 cars I decided to creat an area for logging measurments, angles, geometry etc. The thought process being a FAQ of sort for those nagging questions....like why do 900 axles not work well in 99's etc.

Why don't 900 axles fit properly in 99's? A: The 99 has a 0.5" shorter track width than the 900.

Measured two engine bay spacings yesterday...one 900 and one 99:

99 upper A arm to upper A arm: 27"
900 upper A arm to upper A arm: 27.5"

99 lower A arm pivot to Lower A arm pivot 26.75"
900 not measured.

Open Deck vs Closed Deck V4's:

Open Deck:

coolant passages are open at the top of the block...requires the heads to complete coolant chamber

Coulda swore the 900 rear axle was 1" wider than a 99, 1/2" per side.

900 is more stable at high speeds . . . . .100-130mph, but the 99 is easier to throw around in the wood's with no fly off rear brake handle.
