This car is formally DSP99T's Autocross build. My plans are very different for it...
I have always wanted a classic, tastefully upgraded/backdated, daily driver. I am also a Saab addict with a 900 SPG, 9000 Aero and CSE and Sonett III under my belt. The 99 Combi is my personal "perfect" Saab. The rear end it has the most iconic Saab shape, while the front end has the vintage Sixten Sason flair. The dash is less ergonomic then the 900, but for me is cooler. The sunroof is wonderfully tactile in operation. I could go on, I like this car a lot... but there is a lot I would change, and will! This will not be a purist car, and I am taking inspiration from the Porsche Outlaw folks. Take a classic and make it yours. I want it to be custom yet look OEM, like a special that was never made.
Here is a list of modifications I am planning:
Drivetrain
16V swap with T5
Looking for a good motor. Have Trionic from a 94 9k.
Charge cooler intake plenum
Similar to the setup on the 99t factory rally car.
4 speed with #7 primaries, Steel diff cover, oil cooler
Have 4 speed in the car and a re-bulit on the bench. Looking for primary gears... Anyone?
Short throw shifter
Have it.
Exhaust
Car came with New non-turbo center pipe, muffler and rear pipe. Which is for sale!!
Stainless, 2.5", looking for suggestions ???
Thinking about a single 1 in 2 out muffler.
Suspension and Steering
* Electric power steering column

Boxed A Arms
88 Axel and 9000 brakes
Have these parts on the shelf. Center relocate on rear
Sway Bar(s)
Considering the Aftermarket rear bar + stock 900 bar and a front bar. Thoughts?
15" or 16" x 7" wheel set
Thinking mesh 3-piece or widened Incas (new axels/4x108 pattern make this a challenge, any ideas?)
Lowered (adjustable?) springs
The 900 springs on there sit too high.
Exterior
Chrome Bumpers
Early style front and custom/modified rear bumper to accommodate hatch.
Chrome Mirrors
These are the flag style sjones found, chrome but painted black. I have one so far
Fiberglass hood
Have the hood, but it needs work and I want it to tilt.
And more This is a long term project and I will update above as I do/develop ideas further. The idea is to build and sort out, then strip for a repaint and re-assemble.
Next posts will be about delivery from NC, teardown and inspection, sorting out the original engine.
