Who needs kidneys? They have dialysis machines that you don't need to keep in the car.Crazyswede wrote:Using one of those seats for rally would be like getting punched in both kidneys 1000 times in a row on every stage.
no kidneys = more WEIGHT REDUCTION!

Re: Saab 900 Notchback Rally Car
Latest update.
Currently sitting on a mountain of parts that are waiting to be bolted back together or bolted onto the shell. Spoke to a friend of Jon's last weekend about some paint work and I think we will be doing some sandblasting. I will probably just pick up some paint and a cheap gun and try to prep and paint the engine bay myself. If that goes well I'll give the interior a try too. The bigger challenge is how to prep around the car. Will probably leave the exterior to the body guy.

Painting the exterior is easier than doing the engine bay/interior.
The prep is the biggest pain in the ass.

when we talked to the body shop guy he said if we were going to do the prep that he would like it sanded with 300 grit over all surfaces to be painted. We told him we could prep the shell, deliver it, and mount it on the rotisserie for him to paint on.

Re: Saab 900 Notchback Rally Car
Did some sandblasting on the engine bay and started on the interior on Sunday.
I was using a hood and a particle mask and was blasting outside and still had some lung irritation and skin irritation. The blasting was a little unplanned so I wasn't totally prepared. Next time I will have a full tykchem suit and I am looking into the supply air respirator systems. Anyone have experience with the supply air setups?

Re: Saab 900 Notchback Rally Car
I worked at a body shop once doing sandblasting. I used a painter's hood with a fresh air supply line. I seem to remember doing the blasting outside but the pump and air line were located inside a closed building (no sand dust in there to pick up). It seemed to work fairly well.
The kind of dirty that doesn't wash off

Sounds about right....defeats the purpose if your fresh air supply is just sucking up the dust you are creating and delivering it back to you. I found some nice hood setups...we have an idea about using a new vacuum to flow in fresh air...possibly with some additional filtering.

Re: Saab 900 Notchback Rally Car
sand blasted for about 5 and 1/2 hours today and managed to finish the floor and the underside as well as some of the exterior. Going back tomorrow morning to finish up a few more spots then the car will be just about ready for the body shop.

Looking good Jon & Crazyswede! Thanks for the link to the photos- I saw MANY things that I have questions about...
-What are you using for throttle bodies?
-What pistons are those?
-What head is that?
-what is up with those inner drivers?
Awesome header- why up instead of down? I am assuming it is just clearance for the skidplate.
