'74 X7 Turbo rwd -spring '17 prep
Alright, I'll try to sum up the two years I had the car.
Around 2006 it looked like this.
Picked it up like this.
Modified torpedo wall.
Planning a shifter.
Speedo.
Undercoating…
Rear arch.
Some new floor.
Sandblasted and zink primed chassi
Speedparts order
Roll cage
Crank pulley and rear ARB bushings
Mockup
More chassis
Weight reduced.
Turbo tank
On wheels
Makrolon windows
Wiring
BBS RS 15x7"
Street legal
First summer
Autometer gauges
Wider wheels
US-spec
Bigger intercooler, 450x160x90mm
Adjustable rods and 228mm clutch
New seats
900 radiator
Relocated mirrors
Interior #2
Cold air intake
Wider arches
Engine rebuild
Coilover conversion
Home made window vents
NG900 oil cooler
900 ARB
Back in place
Testrun spring 2013
Tail pipe
Duck tail
Photo session
Trackday but the left drive shaft decided to fall out
Dyno run

That's an impressive amount of quality work. There are great details for others to copy from your fine photos. Sets the bar a little higher for some of us to work toward on our projects.

Giving Luke a run for his money.
Agreed a nice bit of work there. The rear wheel drive will be a great addition as a project.
The bar has always been a "bit" higher here at Saabrally. I even think twice before I post a picture of my work.

You're being too humble squaab99t. 009 and your 99T are way up there.

I love this project.
There is a little bit of JDM / Tuner styling going on here and I totally dig it. Definitely not the typical Saab build.

How are the adjustable springs working for you? The static height seems pretty short and it looks like you would get coil bind on the front due to the lever ratio. The sleeves look like they would crash too. Or is the spring so high that it hardly moves?
Is there an spring isolator on the top or is it right into the body?

Re: '74 X7 Turbo
It works well, the spring is 124N/mm so its pretty stiff. The static height is really low, almost too low. The motion ratio is the same as stock and there is no isolator between body and spring.
Nice with the ability to choose ride height though.

A SI to english conversion gives me a value of 705lbs/in. For the that rate in the front and such a light car I would think that would bounce all over the road in the corners if the surface is not perfectly smooth. I guess I don't know your purpose of the car. Track, daily driver, show, experiment project?
By ratio I was referring to the lever arm, front versus the rear. This is where the reaction distance relative to the pivot and the force in (hub). As an example I run 550lbs/in and 650lbs/in, front and rear respectively for a street driven 900s sedan and it is pretty stiff.

The main purpose is a fun car (it's only on the roads during the summer) which looks good and works alright on the track. The car is so low that it needs to be stiff (although I know that over-stiff isn't good either).
Comfort isn't prioritized. How does your S work with that setup, and what dampers do you use? I had adjustable AVOs on mine.

It seems to rail pretty well. I have adjustable jack screws on the front and adjustable perch on the rear. The front is very easy to adjust with a 18mm socket.
The rear is similar to your adjustable threaded ring.
I use Bilstein HD aka B-8, the yellow ones.

Re: '74 X7 Turbo
Yummy!
Did removing the structure from the rear deck lid effect the stiffness much?
I did the same to my front and there is quite a bit of flex when trying to close the hood.
Great work!

Yes, cutting the rib out of the trunk lid makes it extremely flimsy. Just the tension of the springs in the hinges to keep it open is almost enough to bend the trunk lid. I had to remove the springs completely from mine when I cut out all the stiffening like Schwartz did.
