Postby gert-jan 44 » Sat Feb 15, 2014 1:03 pm

Hi,

I'm currently rebuilding my 99 to a 16v Turbo.

Until a few weeks back it was running on a NA 16v enigine witch was mounted on the original 4 speed gearbox.

I would like to give you guys and girls a look at what I'm doining and maybe I can ask a few questions ;)

the first NA 16v engine (old picture) wires etc.. where taped in after...

not finished jet... needs some attention at the turbo mounting plate and need to weld in some bungs for the lambda...

Awesome...

You should check out ebay. You can get a waste gate housing that will bolt up to that turbo, and already has a flange for a band clamp... and it is already 3". It would make your downpipe install much easier.

Nice, do you have any pictures of the firewall modification?

Hi,

I only have 1 pic of the firewall modifications.
I first test fitted the engine and marked the place where the crankshaft pulley and waterpump pulley.

In the picture you maybe can take some reference points from the heater? It's about 3cm deep into the interior.

Is here anyone who knows if the Lucas CU14 management system has a fuel cut off switch?

I can't find it on any wiring schedule... but I think there should be one? no?:)

Hi all,

I have a question about the ELCD valve, is it better to connect it or can I just leave it out?
In a few online topics they say that it influences the air/fuel mixture?

Thanks!

The ELCD valve controls the venting of fumes from the gas tank. I'm not familiar with the Lucas system (SAAB didn't sell cars with that system in the US) but on one of our T5 cars the ELCD valve went bad and the car ran poorly after filling the gas tank. I think too much vapor was entering the engine's intake at once.
The kind of dirty that doesn't wash off :eyebrows:

Car is running good now!

I'm using a standard 900 160hp APC box, peaks about 0,9bar and goes down to 0,7bar. It's a safe setup. Last week I blown off the intercooler hose. Verry scary! I tought I've blown the head gasket... After a quick fix it was back running!

Had a few issues with the ignition coil, it was making the 3way solenoid valve start clicking like a maniac! Replaced it and the problem was solved.

Next on the list is a saab sport exhaust system. Now I'm running a 3" downpipe, 2,5" reduction then reduced to the original middle silencer ( about 2" I think). That's it. No rear silencer. The sound is good, but I think the small diameter of the exhaust is holding up precious turbo spool up time.

Few pics of the current state:

Looking good Gert, no bumpers suit it, great photo's, love the 1950's industrial setting.

Hi all,

I have a question about trionic 5 conversions.
I would like to switch to trionic 5 but keep the original 99 dash. Problem: the 99 dash has no speed signal output.
Some say you can make selections in T5suites to run without speedsignal , some say the car will only run on baseboost.

I have the option of buying a 9-3 my 99 with all the trionic parts / engine still intact.

How do you guys fix the speed signal problem? Can anyone help me out?

Greetings,
Gert-Jan
