I had some similar ideas a while back to use the 88> rear axle/brake caliper, but use 99/early 900 hubs and rotors and adapt the fit in the bearings. Thoughts on that one?

John

John, if you're using the adapters in the rear and no adapter in the front, then you'd need wheels with different offset for front/rear... That or add huge spacers in the front to match the rear and then get rims with big offset. If I have my head around this correctly, it would be a pretty significant amount of offset needed to make up for those spacers. I'll be the first to admit that I get wheel offset confused regularly though. :dunno:

No adapter in this case, just use the earlier 4x114.3 rear hub with the later rear axle. I plan to buy an 88> axle out of the yard this weekend and start on this...

John

But the center bore on the bearing is much larger on early hubs... I suppose a press fit sleeve could solve this...

I feel like there is still a bolt on solution in there some where ( even if not using all Saab parts)

There may be a solution, but I'm still not sure what the problem we're solving is?

it is clear to me that you do not work for BMW. They answer all of the questions that no one has ever asked.

I think it had something to do w/ dual pattern hubs, but I'd be fine w/ rear e-brakes for 114.4 hubs.

the idea was to have a way to run any wheel on a newer or older car. More so you could run Shelbys on a later car I think. Jon mostly wants to run soccerballs on his white airflow car.

The dual bolt pattern ideas was to use newer brakes with new or older wheels, but mostly for another option besides the 86/87 hubs for the Saab 99s. This would allow installing the 88 and up assemblies on 99s and still allow the use of the Minilites or other older wheels.
You probably won't see Soccerballs on my white airflow SPG anytime soon.

HAH,CRAZYSWEDE....YOU BEAT ME TO IT....

SAVES ME ANOTHER JOB...

I KNOW WE WERE WORRIED ABOUT THE THICKNESS OF THE SAAB FLANGE,FOR PCD ALTERATION,OR STUD INSERTION,BUT WE ARE NOT ALONE.....

THIS FRONT WHEEL FLANGE WAS ON A 2008 MERCEDES 'C' CLASS,I WAS PUTTING SOME NEW DISCS(ROTORS) YESTERDAY....

AND I FOUND A PICTURE OF THE 'JEEP' STUDS,THAT I BOUGHT FOR TRAIL FITTING......NOW,I JUST HAVE TO REMMEBER WHERE I PUT,THE ACTUAL STUDS? :bawl:

OK CHAPS, I HAVE FINALLY MANAGED TO GET MY HANDS ON A SET OF,VENTED FRONT HANDBRAKE CALIPERS,DISCS AND HUBS/FLANGES, (ORIGINALLY FROM A FLATFRONT '85 900 16S....) CHEERS DAVE(AKA 99 EMS) :yay:

THESE HUBS WILL BE STRIPPED DOWN,HEAT SHIELD REMOVED,NEW WHEEL BEARING'S FITTED,AND THE CALIPERS PAINTED UP (IN RED) TO MATCH THE REARS...ON THE 'CLARION 99 TURBO'

BUT WHILST THEY ARE OFF THE CAR,I TOOK THE TIME YESTERDAY TO DO DOME MEASURING AGAINST 'STANDARD' FRONT HANDBRAKE HUBS....

IT WOULD APPEAR,THE FLANGE ON THE 'VENTED' DISC SET-UP EXTENDS FROM THE HUB,BY JUST AN EXTRA 5MM.....?

SO THAT GOT ME THINKING,THE DIFFICULT BIT IS OBVIOUSLY SOURCING THE FLANGE,THE MACHINED PART,THAT THE WHEEL STUDS FIT INTO.....?

I HAD A STANDARD FLANGE READY PRESSED OUT......

IF WE USED PARTS OF THE 'OLD WHEEL BEARING RACE',TO MACHINE A SPACER 5 MM IN WIDTH....?

WE COULD FIT ONE TO THE FLANGE FACE(AS PER PHOTO) AND MACHINE A SMALLER ONE,TO THE REAR OF THE WHEEL BEARING,BEFORE THE CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT,IS INSERTED,AND THIS WOULD SPACE OUT A 'STANDARD' FLANGE,TO 5 MM,TO ALLOW THE VENTED DISCS AND CALIPERS TO BE FITTED.....?

THIS WOULD KEEP THE WHEEL BEARING,UNDER TENSILE COMPRESSION.......BUT ALLOW THE C/V JOINT TO MATE UP TO THE REAR OF THE BEARING AS NORMAL?

THE VENTED BRAKE DISCS,OR ROTORS STILL SEEM TO BE READILY AVAILABLE?

MY OTHER THOUGHTS HERE,ARE THE CALIPERS....... THAT USE THE SAME SIZE BRAKE PADS,AS A MK2 FORD ESCORT/CORTINA/CAPRI OVER IN THE UK?

SO MAYBE I SHOULD GET HOLD OF ONE OF THESE CALIPERS,TO SEE IF IT COULD BE USED ON THE SAAB SET-UP,ELIMINATING THE 'FRONT HANDBRAKE' (FOR COMPETITION PURPOSES)......? :dunno:

ALSO,WHEN I WAS DOING SOME WORK ON A ROLLS-ROTCE SILVER SHADOW,THEY ALSO USE THE SAME FRONT BRAKE PADS AS THE SAAB SET-UP......BUT WITH FOUR POT CALIPERS,AND VENTED DISCS :-O

TRYING TO GET HOLD OF SOME OF THESE SECOND HAND,WILL BE RATHER DIFFICULT..... :ranting:

I WILL HAVE TO SPEAK TO MY 'POLISH' FRIEND,KRIS.......HE MAY HAVE SOME IN HIS 'CLASSIC CAR' WORKSHOP :-O
