Most of the 96's around here are either so clean you wouldn't want to get them dirty or they are so ratty that saving them is a major endeavor and once it is saved you dont want to get it dirty

From a rally perspective there are 1 or 2 people rallying them in this country and though they can be competitive there really isn't a competition class that encourages running historic cars. Most of the events struggle to get a full entry list as it is.

HELLO CRAZYSWEDE,

THAT'S INTERESTING,SO DO YOU REGARD 96'S AS QUITE RARE..? MAYBE, AS YOU HAVE SO MANY SONNET'S... :bawl:

HERE'S JUST A FEW PHOTOS OF SOME OF THE CARS HERE...

A GOOD FRIEND'S SONNET V4(WHICH HE ALLOWED ME TO HAVE A FEW LAPS IN.... :yay: ) WHICH IS AN EX-RACE CAR FROM SWEDEN,THEN IT WAS RALLIED HERE FOR A WHILE,BEFORE HE RESCUED IT.....

AND AT 'GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED' IN A FELLOW COMPETITORS TWO STROKE,WHERE I WAS VERY LUCKY TO GET A PASSENGER RIDE....

WE MAYBE HAVE AROUND HALF A DOZEN V4 RALLY CARS,AND THE SAME, TWO STROKE 96 COMPETING HERE......

THREE 99'S,AND TWO 900T16,THAT I KNOW OF.....

It sounds like you have more SAAB rally cars in general than we do in the US.

We have a few V4 96 rally cars on the west coast and there's one bullnose that has been documented on this site.

A friend of mine also has a '61 96 that he built to be historically accurate. He has used it for hillclimbs, ice racing, rallycross (in the US this is one car on course at a time), and as a course-opening car for stage rally. Here's a picture of us checking it's flight capabilities.

I promise to add some more 96 content to the site in the near future. ;)

I'd love a nice 2-stroke bullnose 96 (wagon if I'm fully in fantasy land) but like Crazyswede said they are either in lousy shape or in pristine shape and $$$ not to mention you'd feel bad about putting one in a ditch.

I've also never had the same urge for the pre-99 Saabs, I respect what they are and all but I'd take a 99/900 over them any day. I think I'd probably say 900>99>Sonnet>95>96>93. Of course I drive an evil GM Saab every day so what do I know...

Oh and I forgot to mention a local guy has a 96 he converted to run fully on electrical power, now that I'd love to drive!

If there were a lot more like this around I think you would see them more often in various forms of racing

There is only a handful of people who actually compete in Saabs here in the states, PERIOD!

Most of them are members of this site.

Heres some info, pretty cool car, I saw/didn't hear it driving around once and then saw it at a bar after it got painted. I'd love to see electric conversions catch on so we can keep all these cool old vintage cars on the road in the future.

Boy thats my dream right there, if I had money/talent to restore/more space I'd love to pick that up. In 10 years I'm sure I'll loathe the day of passing on a $500 95.

I have a project that is coming along slowly. The seats came in Oct and the decal file came in Nov. I am also working on the house I just bought, but hoping to have seats and roll bar in by summer.

I'm looking for some nice dual port exhaust heads for a v4 if you know of any!

I suppose that you have talked with Jack Lawrence about his dual exhaust port heads. I have never seen any others in the USA?
