What happened to the 900 build?
And we organizers hate when guys want to shake down their cars as a lead car. ;) Maybe Anders doesn't care, though.

The 900 build still exists...just slowed down a little. Closing on a house on Friday and I have a new girlfriend...so a few distractions. The cylinder head is with a friend getting some repairs and that is holding up engine reassembly at the moment. The body on the 900 is pretty much done...still a fair amount of work to do and it will continue slowly. I need to finish making it a roller so that I can take it over for inspection and a log book.

I spoke to Ander's and asked about what it takes to run as course opening and he said to start by volunteering as a stage captain and then go from there.

Haha, don't let that become too much of a distraction, not worth it. The OG 9-5 may still have some items in it that will prevent further distraction, be sure to use.

I look forward to seeing future updates to this.

the cool thing is that the new girlfriend is into cars and wants to build a factory five cobra. She likes racing etc so its a bit easier to go to rallies etc.

I have not had a chance to properly inventory all the pieces. I bought the car about 2 weeks before closing on a house and then moving into said house followed shortly by tearing into said house to make it livable. The car and spares are waiting patiently in the garage. I do know I got several intakes, several carbs, 2 spare windshields, 2 spare steering racks, a ton of steel wheels and a set of soccerballs. Many pairs of valve covers, bunch of timing gears, 3 extra stock transmissions, a lightened flywheel and clutch kit, clocks, gages, lights, 4 front fenders, 2 doors, 2 new front calipers, ball joints, part of a heater box.....

Good news, I now have the original SCCA logbook. This opens the door for allowing me to update the cage to the 2005 rules. However, this might be meaningless as the 2005 rules could be different enough that the old cage is no longer valid anyways...or possibly not updateable....but now I can have the car teched and find out what I would have to do.

I also got a bunch of 96 and 900 parts and a huge box of folders and manuals. Old 96 workshop parts manuals, workshop manuals, and one 3 ring binder we Saab club newsletters covering 10 or more years of mailings.

Update:

3 years later. Married. Still renovating house but move in date measured in weeks rather than question marks. Getting ready to tear down and rebuild my tiny garage....so It will be a little nicer below and have work space above.

Put a battery in the car and put my oil pressure tester on the engine. Fired the engine up and good oil pressure 50ish psi at idle...up to 70 under throttle blip. Alternator wasnt charging at first but it is a 900 alternator with removable brush pack....pulled the brushes out, checked the contacts and put back in and now is charging at 14v. Engine vacuum looks good. Still have to confirm coolant temp and do a new (or verify it has a) thermostat. Cooling fan does work but doesnt sound very smooth (electric)...also don't like how the fan takes up all the space between the front of the engine and radiator...maybe do something creative with rad location in future...or fan locatiton...TBD.

Side note....Found a place in the UK advertising rear lexan windows for the 96...reaching to them to verify some details. Like the idea of removing the stock glass both for weight savings but also to reduce breakage chances.
