No seats or harnesses, but everything else is there. It's going to require a pretty good going through to get it to my specs, but Deb wants to shoot for the Idaho Rally in July. We'll see...

Looks pretty good still. I know you mentioned some rust but I'd say it was a win. Also good to see that car get saved and back into some form of circulation. Luckily you and Deb are pretty much average height and size....this means there are 100's of seats that will work and plenty in the $400 - $1000 range for a pair that will be nice.

Awesome new toy. I think you and Deb will be busy for a while getting that prepped. Glad it went to a great home.

Wth hillclimb season finally over, I got some time to work on the car.
Long story short, it won't start due to a bad Pertronix.
I've got another on order, should be in Thursday.

With luck I'll have it running next weekend.

Just noticed its missing some required bars in the cage. Hard to believe it was built that long ago but the rules now require a bar that runs from the top of the windshield down to the front corner of the door opening. It does add a lot of strength but getting in and out is a bit harder.

I was just thinking about that same thing last weekend.
Not sure how difficult it will be to add them, but it's something I'll have to address.

Replaced the Pertronix yesterday and it fired right up. Idles high, about 1800. The IAC is disconnected and the connection is cut off, so maybe the IAC isn't closing.
The electric water pump is in a poor location and the car wants to overheat quickly. I'm suspecting it may have a bad head.
If so, I may drop either my old B race motor in to it, or even my old 16vT/T5.2...
If I keep this engine, I'll need to use my radiator modified with the lower outlet and a 900-type water pump cover. Any one have one?

I think it is.
It heats up, then the temp drops temporarily right where you expect it to, but then keeps heating up.
After playing with it some more, I'm having a problem getting it to bleed and stay bled.
I'm back in Boise this weekend, a half dozen 88-92 900s just showed up at the local yard. 4 have 2.1l engines so I'm heading over tomorrow to pick up 2 engines and a transmission.

When I put the electric water pump in my old 99 I also ran a thermostat. The pump just ran nonstop and there was a small hole in the T stat I had to add so there was always a small amount of flow. The T stat would open and i seconds the temp would drop down. Definitely didn't keep climbing. It certainly could be an air bubble problem. Where is the pump mounted?

It's mounted right at the radiator outlet. Nearly the highest point in the system. I'll get a picture when it stops snowing.

as i recall I mounted mine down near the lower radiator hose. I don't think I have any pictures and that poor car is out in the world beyond my contact. I saw an ad for it a while back and it was pretty rough sadly.

I think this was the PDF I followed way back when:

http://www.geocities.ws/saab99ewp/saab99ewp.pdf

I wasnt running the controller so I still ran a thermostat...but i think i had to drill a small hole in it so it always had some coolant circulating

Did you ever find a B-engine 900 water pump cover?
The impeller-facing face looks a bit rough

Got the car going again today. I updated the Pertronix to a Pertronix 3, got rid of the old welded-up distributor and used the correct (for the Pertronix) 74 FI distributor. I also installed new NGKs and Beru plug wires. Bosch cap and rotor.

Car runs really nice now but I still need to raise the rev limit that comes preset.

I also replaced the valve cover and checked the valve lash. The old cover had damage from a bad timing chain (guessing) and was rusty and nasty. Maybe I'll take it for a drive this weekend!
