Re: Building a AutoX SPG.
most likely Street Modified. i just wanna build something bomb proof also. that's why theres very few engine mods honestly, i mainly wanna build a solid tran's/shifting car and very well balanced handleing.

Re: Building a AutoX SPG.
For bomb proofness, and for traction and generally auto-x worthyness, I wouldn't even bother with an old saab that's 250hp especially in auto-x, where you'll never be leaving 2nd gear.. plus with an old t3 like that, you'll just be hurting your low-end power out of corners, which is where it really counts (other than handling of course). Put the money into the handling and watch your times fall instead. Just my two cents.

Re: Building a AutoX SPG.
That sounds like a great car to build........ just not for Auto-X. Would be fun for track days?
If you really want to Auto-X, I would start stock and maybe try to add a real lsd of some sort, skip the phantom grip.
I tried it and so have a bunch of others on this forum, its not worth the $$ or the time it takes to install. Some argue it actually hurts your handling more than it helps.

Re: Building a AutoX SPG.
So what diff do you recommend? whats suspension mods do you think will make this a really fun car? ive run, a few different lowering springs i think there all to soft. i like the adj spring setups, but still limited to koni reds or bilstien Hd's i kinda like luke's custom coilover's i'm really shooting for suspension mods and trans mods before anything else. i'm gonna build a rear brace very soon also i think this should help. what ARB's should i look into? i wanna build a really raw autoX car but also streetable so i'm not really concern about thing's like of my interior looks shatty cause theres no console. i'm shooting for all performance no show.

Just cut the springs. That would be raw indeed.

Re: Building a AutoX SPG.
I have a set of spg springs that I cut. I took 1 coil off of each, front and rear.
I've used them in a notchback 99 as well as a notchback 900 for a bunch of auto-x.
I have found them to be agreeable on race day but not a ton of fun around town.
A basic setup that seemed acceptable to me was 15" X 7" tires with sticky 205-50-15 tires.
Front: koni adj, with as much neg camber and caster as you can get.
Rear: Bilstien HD with a stock 900 sway bar.
Ditch anything you want to lighten it up, I like to keep em stock looking so that it seems weird when you beat everybody.

If he's going to lighten the car, and modify the suspension, wheels, and engine, he's going to be running in a StreetMod class that's hard to beat.

I ran and won in EP with a stripped car. It weight in at 1960 pounds. I cut the springs and ran KYB gas shocks. Also the car was an 86 so I had 13 inch wheels made and ran slicks. 23/9's had to cut down the front calipers. Engine stock and trans stock.

Most other cars were faster! Subs wrx's, neon's and hondas. I went club racing. More fun.

Re: Building a AutoX SPG.
I forgot to mention the diff, just search this site for info. There's ass loads of blibber blabber about the Grippers from the UK and some from others Sweden on this forum. I picked up a Quaife when a batch was turned out a few years ago, might still be some out there. Mine came from ScanWest.
1960 lbs !!! L I G H T
I got a 900 down to 2400 with rollbar (hoop/braces) and thought that was something.
of course It still had a civil interior, lights and so fourth........ street legal-ish.

Re: Building a AutoX SPG.
Heck luke's car was down to like what, 2200 a while back, and that's with 100ft of rollcage tubing, and other body reinforcement. tiny fuel cell also helps.

Well actually my fuel cell has a slightly larger capacity than a 99 tank, but a little less than a 900.
