Anybody else want a Gripper LSD for 99/90/900?

Postby airsweden » Sat May 21, 2011 12:52 pm

I sent Tom an email to see if they still had any classic 900 units kicking around. They do not but he said if at least 5 are wanted, then he'll do another batch. So if there are 4 more people out there that want one, please chime in. It looks like the price shipped to one location in the US will be just about $1100.

If you havn't already heard about these cool clutch type LSD's, check out the link above. A few folks here including myself had had a chance to run cars setup with them and the difference compared to a stock open diff is eye opening to say the least. If you are actually racing a 99 or 900, you can't afford not to buy one... lol.

How long did it take you guys to get the replacement belleville washers that were breaking last year or whatever that was? Will it be possible to get replacement clutches & drive hubs and stuff if single components wear out / break?

I will want one next year. Can't have one this year though :bawl: , so it would depend on when the order would be placed.

The washer thing has been solved, they sourced a new material.... seems to be holding up well so far. All new units have the new washer and all internal components are standard throughout the line. Its just the carrier housing that is different from one car to another. You can mix and match the ramp angles available and order replacements parts without a hitch.

Pascal.... time rob a 7/11. I want to order asap..... unless there's somebody out there with one they want to sell me now.

I could be into that next year, but I have already exceeded my limit for the year.

the Quaife diff will free wheel when up in the air. The Gripper will not.. Huge difference.
Okay, so I'm female and like SAAB's go figure. Mind you, I like a good set of strappy sandal's just about as much though they don't take you thru the corners as fast. LOL

er thats thats the theory but in practise not so much. If the preload and ramp angle is set then the gripper will lock up with one wheel in the air. Luke and I discovered at STPR last year that the diff did not lock up with one CV joint exploded.

What was the ramp angle set on? Which side of the car?

Drivers side CV joint exploded on a tight slow speed corner in a high traction area during a spectator super special stage. I don't know what ramp angle was being run. I know that a clutch plate style can be tuned to lock up with one wheel off the ground which is something that a quaife can never do.

Would anyone else still be interested in pursuing another batch of these? Or does any one have one they would like to sell?

In practice, I have yet to find a downside to the Quaife.

I'll send Tom an email to make sure pricing will still be the same and that the min order will be 5.

If no one else here is interested, I might try posting in some other places, but first I want to make sure I can accurately describe what people will be getting. Don't want to piss anyone off. Sounds like the new belleville washers are no longer breaking, did these come from Tom, or did you guys source these yourselves? It also looked like there was some clearance issues with the shift shaft, sounds like spot milling around the bolt faces cured that. Any idea if another run of these would come with this issue taken care of? Anything else that has come up during anyones ownership?
