current thought is that due to the engine being seized twice before from oil starvation that the bearings were in less than optimal condition. A bearing spun and then caused a horrible rod knock and the movement of the yoke around the crankshaft caused tremendous stress that eventually shear the cap bolts off and then from there the rod was free to move around until it got smacked in two by the crankshaft.

It sure looked like bearing failure to me w/ the discoloration around the big end of the rod. When did this happen?

In the middle of SS 13 at rally new york:( We should have in car video up soon and you can hear exactly when it happened.

All four valves on cylinder 4 are bent.

that's a good failure! I don't think I have ever seen a saab rod fail like that... well no, I did once... but that was in a 9000 that had a grand total of 2 oil changes in 90,000 miles worth of driving :lol:

he does change the oil, we need to work on draining it when the engine ISN'T running.
