Well, the fuel pressure is spot on at both cold and warm. I guess it's timing light time...

Hilariously long delay in posting this but no, there has been no progress. I've totally exhausted any mechanical skills I have so the car has just been sitting around looking pathetic. Got yelled at by my neighbors a while ago for it being too loud, so I'll have to put some more muffling on the car before doing any more work. I managed to wrangle some friends into coming down to my place this coming weekend and giving me a hand. Hopefully they can figure it out. I just don't have the skills to make it happen on my own.

Got it! It's 98% now, just needs a hair more fiddling, but I drove it a good 20 miles today. After sitting for so long, it looked like it had driven out of a swamp! Sticking an ANSA exhaust on it tomorrow, and giving it a good bath.

The suspense!! Aaaah!

Basically it was a handful of new little things (cap, rotor, plugs, fuel filter etc) along with a new, strong battery (was trying to get by with a shitty one) and some very experienced friends fiddling with the mixture.

I spent 6 hours deeply cleaning the car today, and about that yesterday building an exhaust for it. I'll throw up a picture of before and after tomorrow.

Real happy right now, but the car still has lots of electrical issues to sort out.

The tires are also TERRIFYINGLY dry rotted, so I'm looking for the cheapest set of street tires to get me by. Any recommendations?

You're welcome to the Kelly tires (165) off mine. They still have plenty of tread and were going to be dumped anyway.

Brand new? I recently purchased a set of falken 185 65 15's from tirerack.com and they perform very nicely on the 99 turbo. fairly cheap too!

Hey, I'm going to get the wheels done either Friday or Monday .. the tires (all 5) are yours if you'd like. They're actually mixed (sorry I didn't buy them!)

They're all 165s, but the spare is a PASSPORT 1, the two fronts are Kelly Metric Radials and the two rears are Cooper Sport Metric GT. All or none if that is cool with you :)))))

It's hard to pin in down to that exactly, but a lot of issues cleared up when we really started playing with the mix. I have a feeling the PO messed with the mix a whole lot so I was t that. nervous about playing with it.

I hope necroposting is OK on this forum because I figured I'd just bump the hell out of this thread and let everyone know that I STILL have this car! I refused to give up all winter, and after getting my first taste of RallyX in my BMW 2002, I want this car to be my RallyX car.

As a refresher to folks, this car is an 80' Saab 99, has a fresh rebuild, is bored up (I'm not sure of the parts but I was told VW pistons and connecting rods), and has an MSS header.

So, I'm still playing with tuning it, and am getting really close but am in an annoying place. I attempted to set the timing but am having a lot of trouble seeing the timing marks, despite marking them with white paint. I think I have a crap timing light which doesn't help. I'm still having mixture problems. At the moment it is idling perfectly with a nice mixture, however when I get on it, it leans out (as far I can tell). If I plug in the 5th injector it pulls HARD but dies in seconds at idle. So it is drivable, but isn't developing power like it should unless the 5th injector is plugged in.

Well, there's my update. Thanks for putting up with my stupidity folks!
