got to take the car out for a good ride to work today (about 80 miles round trip)..she runs very good 90-95%...still idles very high i have checked the hoses at the idle valve, adjusted the throttle switch, checked and replaced all vacuum hoses.. i have the idle screw all the way backed off i thought i adjusted that idle screw thing at the throttle plate correctly maybe not i have it all the way turned in and it still idles at about 2000 rpm's....aside from that boy how i wish there was another gear 55mph is 3500 ish rpm's....any ideas on the idle? thanks again guys not there yet but much closer

Good to hear you are making progress. Your speedo might not be accurate - 3500 rpms should be 62mph for the original gearing of a '73 transmission. Later 99 transmissions were like 1 to 2 - 3500rpms would be 70 mph, 4500 would be 90mph, etc. Yours (if original) is 17.7mph for every 1000rpms. I don't know if the auxiliary air regulators go bad, but it's possible. They do rely on coolant temperature to know if the engine is warmed up or not. The later style used on kjet cars would sometimes stick, and penetrating oil sprayed down the air port could free them up. If you remove it, make sure there isn't a build up of deposits on the sensor portion. I could send you one to try if you can't solve the problem. I see the book lists injector seals as another possible reason for a high, non-adjustable idle. Those seals are unobtanium, so maybe a slather of seal-all could work. I avoid pulling injectors for fear of damaging seals you can no longer buy.

A well running 2.0 d-jet 99 is faster 0-60 than any k-jet 99 that came afterwards, including a turbo!

i'll try to clean up the air regulator today..i have sprayed throttle body cleaner around and did not hear any idle changes (ijectors-intake-tb)

hey guys i plan to pull and go through the motor on the '73 (2.0 fi)..is there any upgrades i can look for (cam-etc.) without going crazy limited funds..should i keep and sort the fuel injection or look for a carb set up (i have seen the 2.0's with twin su carbs)

I have seen brand new side draft webers listed between $750 and $1000...plus you will need a manifold...another $200 to $300. A set of headers and a freer flowing exhaust will help a lot.....trick will be finding some headers as MSS is not making them right now. You could install a newer fuel injection system using an older D jet manifold...if you do all the work yourself it could be cheaper. I think the EMS cams were a little peppier than the stock ones...or maybe it was the carb cam? You can probably still get a street cam from MSS...but after getting the cam, double valve springs, seats, and compensating shims you will be into it for $400 or so.

ouch stop it hurts....she has a header thank you po (also nice exhaust with a great sound) thought about a cam but if they're not out there..i know the su carbs are bogus but the cool ass webers are out of my reach should i stick with and sort out the fuel injection now that parts are getting hard to find for these as well.....pulling the lump out to fix the leaks and clean and sort the entire mix

are the engine tear down parts (gaskets/seals/rings) the same as the b engine c900? what years can i use? my rear crank seal has a good leak and found that it is the same as a 1996 ford (but would rather not use and risk the leak returning)

The rear main seal is the same I think as are the exhaust gaskets if you run them. The intake gasket is the same bolt pattern but has different coolant ports and the head gasket is different. the valve cover gasket is also different.

Disregard Crazyswedes post. Always. I think he is talking about the 8v H-engine 900.

All the b motors share all the same parts. Try RockAuto
