Malbrad Saab in the Uk are ready to get manufactured a full set (5 gears) of spec 1 gears for the 96. They are looking for serious equiries and will produce a batch of around 10 sets.
The gears will take around 7 wks to manufacture once there are enough people placing a deposite of £280, the whole cost will be £1080 + vat
The 99 gears will follow this run I believe.

Re: Saab 96 spec 1 gear set - available again
Excuse my ignorance but I asked my friend who has a spec II gearbox in his car and he didn't know either...
Are the Spec I gear sets 3 spd?
The S&R catalog shows less gears in the spec I set vs. the spec II set.
Maybe it's because that catalog is from '79 and the parts department had run out of some pieces by then?

No they are 4 speed.
But some of the gears are from a standard gearset so therefor you need less special gears to complete it. Thats why it is less gears on the picture.
SP1 and SP2 gears are also the same, only freewheel shaft and corresponding gear that is diffrent.
And for that price I can sell 1 or 2 SP1 sets. I can sell cheaper then that also:)

Thanks Jonas. I obviously don't know enough about earlier SAAB Sport and Rally, but that's OK because my oldest car is a 99 :)

I realize I'm digging up a very old post, and I haven't been active here for moons but... Were these gearsets ever manufactured?
I have an old Special 1 set installed in our Sonett, and love it to death. It's the best upgrade we've ever installed.
I've got a spreadsheet on my website that calculates the speed in gear at specific RPMs.
