Did europe get a smaller bumper for the 99s?

Postby Scott » Tue Sep 11, 2012 11:30 am

Did Saab ever put out a smaller bumper for other markets for the 99? It seems popular on BAT cars to replace the US bumper with a European version, but I don't recall seeing one for our cars.

Just curious.
I wish my car had winter mood technology.

Unlike VW, BMW, etc. SAAB was concerned with everyone's safety, not just meeting regional regulations.

Yep, as far as I am aware, aside from emission requirements the "bumper size" never changed between the "euro model" and the US model. I do know that many early US model 900's had a supplementary "bumper shock" in the rear, I guess to make the 900 pass the "5 MPH no damage" bumper requirement the US had at the time, but the physical dimensions are still the same.

Seems like all 900's should have this as standard. When they get rear ended, it tends to mess them up real badly...

Up to 72, the US cars had the small chrome bumpers. I know that they did change the mounting points/brackets over the years to extend them out further from the body. Maybe that makes them look bigger.

In the UK the 72 on 99's had the same rubber bumper as the 96 V4 then gained larger bumpers and lights from around 80 ish. When we also got the H-type motor and the c900 style doors But the 99 turbo kept the early doors and the B-type !
