84 turbo starter question

Hi all,
I recently picked up an 84 turbo 8 valve. The starter motor may be fried, and before I go ordering a new one I figured I'd consider plan B. This one is of course underneath the exhaust manifold- bad spot, no wonder it's fried.

I also have a later model 8 valve N/A motor sitting in my garage with the starter motor mounted on the intake side. Any reason I couldn't swap the whole plate behind the flywheel over to the 84 and use the later style starter? As long as I'm in there, and all....

Cheers,
Paul

Not sure if the blocks are the same on the flywheel side. The easy way out would be to just find a good starter and bolt it in. Are they really that bad?

I raided the crank and pistons out of an 84 turbo to donate the pistons to a hemi headded 85 turbo motor. I tossed the rest in the scrap heap.
