If I do my math correctly (and there is very little chance of that)... The pieces would have been flying at around 260mph.

So... Toss a chunk of flywheel out the window of a Bugatti Veyron at top speed and see what happens when it hits something.

I had a chain break in a 5 speed running a 31:30 ratio at about 80mph in the old rally car once. There was a loud bang (engine was turning about 4000 rpms in 5th gear) and sparks came out from under the hood, but the car kept driving. I pulled off the interstate and stopped at a gas station. I looked things over and everything looked ok. So I checked the transmission oil level...it was dry. I put a quart in, it was still dry, I put a 2nd quart in, it was still dry...WTF I says to myself. at this point I am out of oil. I start to walk into the gas station to get some oil when I see the big puddle under the car....oops. I fire the engine up, put the car in gear and let out the clutch...car goes no where.

Later when I pulled the engine out and I found a chunk missing from the top of the chain cover. When I pulled the bolts from the front cover, the bottom half fell on the ground and there were a lot of mangled chain parts behind it.
