Replacing coolant tank - 1974 99

Postby Brian » Fri May 10, 2013 10:30 am

I have what is in the first picture. The lip that the cap is supposed to grab on to when turned is all buggered up and it won't seal and build any pressure. SaabRally sells the second picture which is listed as a '75 and up. It appears the only difference may be that the cap is located on the opposite end. It's also held down by two straps instead of one. It appears that it may be a little longer as well. Has anyone put this tank in an earlier car?

Hey Brian,

I'll check out the exact difference for you, but I should be able to make one for your car.

I just finished this hybrid tank in black powder coat for someone with a 99 that is using a 900 coolant routing path , so anything is possible.

I need one of those for my 99 project!

Ill need a coolant tank for my notchback too when I do the weight jacker setup. But it will be a little different than that.

There are many many cars that this should be made for. DeLoreans for one, though probably 75% of them already have one. Newfangled V6 saabs frequently fail their tanks & lines due to their positioning over the turbocharger. Clearly this should also be made for classic 900's, almost all of them fail their coolant tank eventually and new OEM ones are $75. The audi 2.7T's also have frequent problems with their coolant tanks... really just about every turbo car with a plastic tank will eventually crack due to high under hood temps.

Yep, I have a 900 design in process and I am totally open to doing other cars as well!

Will you have that 99/900 hybrid style on the site?
