What oil in 4-speed 1974 99?

Postby Brian » Wed May 15, 2013 7:13 pm

The factory manual says straight 80, 75 in cold climates but it is not the easiest thing to find in local parts stores. Others have said they run a 10 w 30. What is the consensus here?

10-30 is not good enough in my opinion, 75-90 will work just fine in warmer weather.

Well I was reading more of a manual and even though it's not listed on the main table they mention using a GL-4 or GL-5 on the instructions for filling the transmission. So looks like I'll just go with the 75w-90.

Red Line makes an 85 weight that fits the bill pretty well. Might not be available locally, but most places have free or cheap shipping.
