fuel pump?

Postby saabfan9 » Sun Jul 21, 2013 5:53 pm

hey guys I swear I've seen this elsewhere ...I went out to the 99 (d-jet) and have no fuel watching the filter it looks as if it's trying but the sound of the pump when you cycle the key has changed....questions: anyone know where to source a pump? is it the same as a c900? what kind of pressure do I need?...I thought I heard something like 30-35 psi, is that correct? I find the bogus part store replacement one at 15 psi...or the newer cars all run 50psi+

I'm looking at replacements too as I've blown 3 8 amp fuses in the past 4 months. I've been told I should be using a 16a fuse, but I've also read about 1978 and on fuel pumps having a problem with the rubber breaking down. Mine is a 77. Price wise it looks like $115-$150 for the correct bosch part.

Any fuel injection pump should be fine. A later K-Jet (CIS) or LH-Jet pump will work just fine.

I think it is just a return, but I'm not sure. I wouldn't be worried about returning too much fuel. The regulator will supply the correct amount of fuel to the "rail" and whatever is in excess will be returned to the tank.

What is the Bosch P/N of the OE pump?

There are actually two returns in the tank. You can just plug the R hose coming off the old D-jet pump, and use the pump inlet and outlet hose to the engine. The return line on the D-jet fuel rail goes to a port on the top of the tank. The return port coming off the pump head goes into a return hose on the left side of the tank.

The pressure regulator is something on the order of 30-35 psi.

You need to have a pump that can supply plenty of flow at more pressure than that.

In my brother's car he just bought a universal Walbro GSL392 (the inline version of the 255 liter/hour Walbro pump). They are cheap, reliable, and move more fuel than you'll ever need. They have threaded ports on both ends so you can configure it however you want. You can just get threaded adapters to go to hose barbs on both ends and it splices right into the existing hoses, just make sure you measure them, or replace the hoses at the same time.

Nope. The fuel pressure regulator on the rail should take care of it.

You don't wanna block off any return lines, the return should still go back into the tank from the fuel rail. The 3rd line into the stock djet pump is for the over-pressure function that is internal to the later bosch pumps, the early ones actually bypass the excess fuel back into the tank whereas the newer ones don't do that.

Just order online, they are cheaper. Just mare sure you get appropriate fittings for the ends.

Paul is right, I might have been unclear. Leave the return line from the rail alone. Plug the middle return line going from the original pump to the tank, and just connect the large supply hose and the feed hose to the engine to the new pump.

We ran D-Jet and CIS like that, they work fine.
