That was me, the ID of the needle bearing is really common, the OD not so much, so I just indicated and bored out. I did use the old race that was on the input shaft, but those are usually in nice shape.

I had found an online Porsche site that had the correct bearing listed as 2 in stock. That was bearing number 083311133 They had a 75$ minimum order, so I ordered the 2 and then another random bearing and some bolts to make up the difference. I received the package yesterday and it only had the random stuff in it, turns out they didn't have the bearings anymore.

I've looked around a lot and haven't found anything else that size. Luke, do you have a part number for the bearing you ended up using? And if you also had any measurements or description I could give to a machine shop of what you did that would be hugely helpful. Id like to have this together for Mt Washington this month but am running out of time.

I did find what I hope are the right cluster shaft bearings. Those are ordered and on their way. The bearing designation for those is k20x28x20

na nkro the early 5 spd 900 before 1989 uses a 20x28x20, the 89 and later 5 speed 900 uses a saab only INA part that is NLA

I forgot you are talking about 4spds. so the early 4spd uses 20x26x20 and the DOGset uses 20x28x20

good to know the dogset uses a regular obtainable bearing

simplybearing does have the 20x28x20 bearing its a standard INA needle bearing widely used today

Im planning to bring the case to a machine shop next week, and will try and order the bearings before hand.

One other question is what chains will work. I have a new set of 5 speed ones, but Im not sure if the length on those will work. They seem just slightly shorter.

The old primary bearing had a depth of 21mm. I can only find 30x40x20mm bearings, any issue with a slightly shallower bearing? Is this what you used Luke?

The 4 speed chains should be longer to use with the larger cog primaries. They also used a different tensioner that has a longer travel. I'm guessing you are going to use a 31/30 set?

Yes, I'll just use the old ones unless someone knows where to buy new.

I'm sure I could scrounge up some IWIS racin' chains. I just need to know the link count.

I'd assume they are stonger. They have a "racing" line which is slightly more expensive. Mostly timing chains for Porsche, BMW etc. I'm going to send them an inquiry. Pascal said they are 34 links.

Jorgen Eriksson was selling (sells?) stronger chains. I think he said they were the same ones that the Works team was using. If you can get some I could use a few pairs. I'll need to check link count too. I think I see 33 links in the picture below(?)

He counted 34. Which makes sense. The 5 speed chains i counted have 33. Iwis actually goes by the number of bars and not complete links.. so the 5 speed chain is 66 where as the 4 speed I'd assume to be 68, which is in their catalog.

Our importer of Iwis does not have them (34 link) in stock which means that getting them is months away. For the time being I'm going to check for old stock in Genuine SAAB which is like 5x more expensive. Like I mentioned , IWIS has a racing line with strengthened, closer tolerance parts, so I'd guess that is all that Jorgen is getting.

Thanks for checking that Jordan. If you can get some from Saab or have a used set I would be interested in either. Id also like to get some new from IWIS if that can eventually happen.

Yeah , I'll check my bag of chains, I'm pretty sure I have at least one set of 4 speed ones. I'll let you know soon. When are you trying to get all this together by?
