FIA Drawings 253-31 to 253-34

FIA Drawings 253-31 to 253-34

Since I don't know how many people have seen my build in off topic section... I'll post here.

For those in the know, (and I have asked CARS for a clairifcation if this is required...)

I was doing a final run through of the regs on my cage, and was wondering about FIA 253 8.3.2.2.6.

8.3.2.2.6 Reinforcement of bends or junctions (Drawings
253-31 to 253-34) :
Reinforcements must be made of tubes or bent-sheet metal with U
shape complying with Article 253-8.2.14.
The thickness of the components forming a reinforcement must
not be less than 1.0 mm.

The ends of the tubular reinforcements must not be more than half
way down or along the members to which they are attached,
except for those of the junction of the front rollbar, which may join
the junction of the door strut/front rollbar;


This seems to indicate that Tube or gusset reinforcement of:
1/2 laterals to main hoop 253-31
1/2 laterals to windshield transverse member 253-31
Main hoop to backstays 253-32
1/2 Laterals to A pillar reinforcement (FIA bar) 253-33

Are all required. I have seen tons of examples of the first two for FIA 253-31 (I was wondering what I was missing, because my read on it was that they were optional due to 8.3.2.2)

8.3.2.2 Optional members and reinforcements :
Except other indications given in Article 253-8.3.2.1, members and
reinforcements shown in Drawings 253-12 to 253-21 and 253-23
to 253-33 are optional and may be installed as desired by the
constructor.


However, I have NEVER seen a picture of Main hoop to backstays 253-32 reinforcement.

Any thoughts? I guess the CARS clairification will be the one to go with, but I am confused with the damn wording of 8.3.2.2... why the hell would they include the 3 drawings when it seems that another rule may make them compulsory?
