Cheap 900 Fog light Replacement?

Postby Sam » Sat Jan 04, 2014 2:43 pm

I see that walmart carries these Bosch/Hella lookalikes and they appear to be compatible with the C900 mounting. Has anyone tried these or another generic set of fog lights? I would love to have lights which are disposable since i'm constantly bottoming out on driveways at gas stations.

Check out my shop truck thread. I used them on the rear of the sleeper cap as spot lights.

They are pretty low quality.

I have some on my 93' Geo Metro. The light output is good enough, however the beam pattern is sloppy at best, and both of mine are cracked due to rock-blast on the highway, but they still work.

If you have shitty standard US headlights on a C-900, cheap walmart lights will toss some more light on the situation for a low price and you can easily run them in concert with your low beams- or get some nicer hella 500 FF's which will add a lot more light, however you will only be able to run them with your highbeams without getting flashed by other blinded drivers!

They sound good enough to me as long as they are not hideous on the 900. I now regret not buying the grated covers for them as i think they look a bit better.

Where are you guys sourcing the e-code lenses for the stock headlights? Perhaps they are a better solution to the visibility issue as a whole.

There are no E-code lenses for classic 900's, it is the entire assembly. 87-93 C-900 E-codes are pretty darn hard to find. Go to http://returbilen.se/

look at the pictures they have, see any good C-900's there? Book a flight, go to Sweden, and you will have some good LHD e-codes for about $35 a piece. Last trip to Sweden? We got 2 good sets that way.

Thanks for the info guys. Is it possible to switch to the older style headlights on the 87+ cars? These lenses seem a solid upgrade for those models. http://www.ebay.com/itm/H4-6000K-XENON- ... 46&vxp=mtr

You can convert an 87 or later 900 back to the early headlights. You will need to swap the bumper and the turn signals too. You have to snip a few wires but it is pretty easy.

Bumper extensions, lights, grills, turn signals, headlight buckets, etc... Just get some E-codes for the 87+ or, add some walmart "fog-lights". No need to get so technical with it.

Didn't Canada get E-codes as standard?

Yep, though finding some that are NOT totally rock blasted might be the trick. There are a couple sellers on ebay that will occasionally offer them up, but generally the ones I have seen look so trashed you'd be better off with good US lights. The reflectors and the lenses both have to be in good shape for it to be a worthwhile swap.

They are available brand new for around $350 for a set. There is a guy on ebay with around 12-20 sets. I think he's out of North Carolina. Last time I looked he had a bunch on there. I can also ask my friend where he bought his e codes from. The e codes also don't have the crappy black frame and adjusters that snap.

I bought a set of those Walmart ones once. The housings cracked within a week leaving one of them hanging from the wiring irreparable. I never even hit anything - I think they just got too cold and the plastic cracked.

Search "Bosch fog" on ebay or "Bosch Pilot". I've found all my sets new-in-box for under $25 for the actual Bosch Pilots - usually with covers.

Those e codes are probably the Depo brand. I womder how the beam pattern is compared to the genuine article?
