The 99's had a flow through tank where the 900 went to an expansion tank. Doing the same on a 99 as a 900 might help as well.

My '76 rally car has this setup (900 radiator, 900 expansion tank, 900 B engine water pump cover). Never had a problem with it getting too hot or cavitating (that I know of) up to 7500 rpm.

did you ever look at the impeller on your pump to see if any vanes had been removed or trimmed?

Nope. 15 years, multiple rallies, 50 rallycrosses, 15 thousand miles, and thousands of RPMs over the stock 'limit': never opened the engine!

would be nice to know if that car has just a stock water pump impeller or if it got trimmed.
