Has anyone here used the pictured set with fewer dogs?
Wondering how easy it is to shift/daily drive. I imagine it would last a bit longer than the standard internals.

Re: gear kits
I don't think I'd want to daily drive a straight cut gearbox car. Lots of noise tends to come out of straight cut gears. Think of that wirring sound that reverse makes and now think about that sound in your ears all day at 75 mph on the highway.

And with a S&R R&P (6:31) and 31:30 primary 75mph is about 5000RPM. In theory you could use a stock R&P (9:35) and the 31:30 primary and you'd be at about 4000RPM at 75mph (same as a stock 4spd) but your first gear would be real long. It would be about 18% longer than 2nd gear in a stock 5spd or about the same as 2nd gear in a 4spd. Hill starts would be a challenge.
Ratios for the Lars Davidson and the S&R gearsets:
(edited to clarify the actual gear ratios including the intermediate multiplier - '4th gear')

Re: gear kits
I'd be up for trying it (If I could find the money in time).
I've just never driven a dog box before (Unless you count motorcycles). My drive to work is about 5 minutes @ 30mph, rarely go on the highway anyhow. If it's stronger I don't care about noise

Re: gear kits
Geoff, I think that table is a little misleading the way you have the gear #'s labeled, since the "4th" is really the input gear and the true ratios for 1,2,3 is multiplier of that gear. Also, the input gear should really be 18/16 or 1.125 since its driving power from the main shaft to the cluster gear.

Re: gear kits
Yeah, good point. I grabbed the info from a spreadsheet I had sitting in my email from a while back when I had measured the gears but I didn't really look at it too close the other day. I edited the post above with the corrected gear ratios and added in the S&R for comparison. Hopefully this makes sense to people.

Nice, looks great, for all intents and purposes, comparable to the S&R ratios.

Re: gear kits
I have received the ratios from FLD, they are 1st 2.15, 2nd 1.59. 3rd 1.25. They will sell single kits and 4 weeks to make.

Thanks Ross. What is the price per kit? What form of payment do they take?

If you want to dance, you have to pay the band.
So if one were to use this for a road car what primary combination would you use?
Drew, shipping to one US address from Sweden might save a few bucks on bond and freight?

was this gearset designed for use with a stock R&P or for one of the motorsport ratios?
