I purchased a headgasket kit through eeuroparts for my 88 900 turbo. I didn't check the engine number first but the kit I ordered is listed for engine J082586+, my engine number is J081066.
There is another kit listed for the engine range mine falls into but it is $100 more expensive. There is only one headgasket listed for all 900 16v.
Is there any difference between the headgaskets on the later or earlier engines? From what I can tell the only change in the kit would be the oiler tube kit and some other things I don't need. Can I just use the headgasket kit I have?

Yes, the head gaskets are all the same as long as it's for a 16V 900.

The "kit" for the 88 most likely includes the plastic parts for the oil feed pipes that your 88 has but 89+ does not. IMO, if you are running an 88 or back head those SHOULD be replaced while it's all apart. Was not aware that those alone added $100 to the price.... But they probably should be done is they never have. If they crack your cam and lifters won't get oil supply.

If you need the oil feed tube pieces, eEuro has them listed as a kit #0998460 for $38.40 The $150+ kit has head bolts and antifreeze etc. added
