TE05 5bolt patern to 3" Vband

Postby Krizzie » Mon Sep 23, 2019 9:04 am

To remove even more restriction from the exhaust side, I'm looking for a flange/adapter that goes from the 5 bolt patern to 3" v-band.

For the older Garrett T3's there the Ultimate wastegate: https://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=tp&Product_Code=ATP-WGT-023&Category_Code=INWGS

For my TE05 I'm looking for a similar flange but I don't know what 5 bolt patern it uses.. :dunno:

Any one here that can help me?

It's fairly unique 5 bolt design. In the past I've welded a v-band flange directly to the stock cast piece. It tends to crack over time (at least racing it) , but it does work. I've been thinking about machining an adapter as well, but it would probably be more of a winter project. If you're interested let me know.

I'm very interested!

A friend of mine has what you described, but you still have a restriction then. You only make the downpipe installation easier (Which is a nice bonus of course)

Something like this would be ideal I think:https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/32258377221.html?ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_0,searchweb201603_0,ppcSwitch_0&algo_pvid=ab9e8662-89f6-444c-848a-4e8dd2c15878&algo_expid=ab9e8662-89f6-444c-848a-4e8dd2c15878-5

Very true. I have one of the ATP 3 on a car and it is definitely a nice flowing setup. Since the mitsu turbos don't have the wastegate arm in that part of the housing, perhaps an adapter plate would be all that is needed from one of the ones that you have shown in your link.

I think you'll almost certainly have to have it machined from an existing turbo as it is a very unique flange, as Jordan said. I looked into this years ago and for some reason I thought there was some new turbo (off a Subaru I want to say?) that used the same flange but I can't for the life of me remember what it is.

You may have seen it already but check out this thread, and maybe DrewP can chime in here with some options:

You may have also seen by now but the way the wastegate operates in the TE05 is sort of funky and is integrated into the turbine housing so you can't really use something like the Ultimate V Band that has the wastegate flapper attached to it. I think for the effort an ovalized pipe like DrewP did or a divided downpipe is the way to go.

I have seen this pictures before I think!

But this option would mean a whole new downpipe (or an extra v-band in the middle) I would prefer to cut off the 3 bolt flange of my current 3" downpipe and weld on a v-band connection.. Looks better and in case of a new turbo (the earlier mentioned GT2860RS with Ultimate gate) an easier swap.
